Alabama has all of the high end analysts and tOSU has all of the coaches with big titles. When they lose a coach, they just move a guy from Analyst or Assistant Head Coach positions to become OC or DC. As great as Franklin was at identifying and bringing in Moorhead and Limegrover and other coaches, this isn't as stable and repeatable as having DC or OC in waiting type roles. I guess Pry was DC in waiting (1b) while Shoop was DC (1a), so maybe Franklin does buy into this a little... or maybe it just worked out that way. I would really love to see more analysts or bigger name coaches on staff in preparation for coaches leaving. If Penn State has the kind of sustained success that CJF seems to be working towards, then there may be more coaching changes (leaving for promotion) than we are used to.

Tosu didn’t seem to have an OC in waiting the past couple of offseasons and there’s a reason they had to go outside of the program to get Schiano. I get your premise, but tosu has not been immune to abrupt changes.

That is the biggest load of crap I have read today.

Alabama has a head coach that is ready to blow his fuses, valves, and/or arteries any second.

Urban looks and sounds near death half the time.

Apparently OSUs 3 loses last year and 2 losses with the potential of 3-4 losses this year by seasons end with blow outs registered to Iowa this season and Clemson last bowl season are a sign of superior staffing?

Good grief this indicates to me that these organizations are a mess with too much booster interference and stress because there are too many assholes from inside and out pulling in too many directions...
Call the analysts ...whatever...they are baggage and stress.

You need to do some research because the facts don't support that statement.

I’m good. Why don’t you tell me how Alabama doesn’t have a lot of analysts or how tOSU didn’t once have three defensive coaches with bloated job descriptions?

Both Bama and OSU have gone outside frequently for coordinators recently, so you second sentence is incorrect.

Is there an interpretation of this available? BTW, I agree about the asshole part

Hiring up and coming coaches creates a revolving door. Tom Herman and Chris Ash were good hires everyone knew would last 2-3 years tops.

OSU was 11-2 last year. Not sure where you get 3 losses.

Urban made a horrible hire with Tim Beck to replace Tom Herman. Nebraska fans were laughing their butts off. His promotion of Ed Warriner from OL coach to OC was equally bad. Followed it up with Wilson and Ryan Day which was a major upgrade.

Prior to that, his first DC hire, Ev Withers, was bad as well. Retaining Fickell was the best move he made, got 5 years out of him. Schiano and Bill Davis...verdict is still out. I think OSU fans expected more from Schiano.

Meyer’s problem is his 2 year tolerance for bad coordinators. Withers, Warriner and Beck shouldn’t have had a second year. If the boosters were really in charge those guys would have been gone. The $ guys were pissed.

Urban and Saban are micro managers bordering on dictators. You say boosters run the roost, couldn’t be more wrong. Those 2 guys aren’t bowing to anyone. In some cases their biggest mistakes are not listening to those around them. Kiffin and Sark were all Saban. Beck and Withers, on Urban.

Excellent analysis.

Spot on about Nebraska fans laughing at Urban from day 1 of the Beck hire.

The only thing that I disagree with is your comment that the verdict is still out on Bill Davis. If there was a hire possibly worse than Tim Beck it is Bill Davis. I am sure that there are many Phila Eagles fans on this board that suffered through his tenure as DC for the Eagles would agree with me.

The drop off from Fickell was going to be steep but this has been like going off a cliff. OSU fans were ready to ride Luke out on a rail before they realized it was Withers who was the problem.

Luke put 10 LB's in the league and was one hell of a position coach. Ya don't know what you got till its gone...

Davis will get his 2 years and OSU fans will pick him apart next season.
