Parents die within an hour of each other. Father taken to hospital for heart attack, mother suffers hear attack hour later. Married 50+ years.

Just terrible. Doug said; "His mom must have died of a broken heart." There is a little bit of a tidbit about the elder Flutie and PSU. I remember reading an article where Doug mentioned how he finally got a shot to play when BC visited PSU. He remembers using a payphone at the stadium to call his dad about how thrilled he was to get an opportunity to play at Beaver Stadium

I was a paramedic in NY when I was young. I experienced two very similar events. They were both eerie and joyous for all medical staff involved, if that makes sense. I hope Doug and his family find a gentle peace with the passing of the two.

Whoa.

Just thinking the other day - is there any other sports announcer that has improved more than Doug Flutie? When he first started in the broadcasting business - he was absolutely painful to watch. Struggled mightily. I'd put the late Bobby Mercer in 2nd place... Horrible horrible horrible initially, by the time he wrapped up his broadcasting career (albeit wayyyyyy too soon) he was warm, hokey yet loveable... Always knowledgable.... Huge improvement...

Anyway... Too bad for the Flutie family

The double loss is painful for sure but thankfully the children are grown ups. Prayers to the whole family.

My sympathies to the Flutie family. There is an obvious sadness to this news, and yet a certain comfort to it. They were together in life and if one believes in an afterlife, and I do, they are together again.

I have heard of this happening and yes, I believe mom died of a broken heart. It's tough enough to say goodbye to one parent, but two at one time - don't know that I could handle that.

For my money, Doug Flutie was the best opponent that I ever watched play at Beaver Stadium.

Rest in Peace, Mr. and Mrs. Flutie.

Joyous?

And I thought it was tough when my parents died 8 days apart (though it made the Inky)....

Agreed…..even when playing us…..he was the most fun opponent to watch, whenever. One very rare athlete.
