Levels night club closed. Liquor license is being transferred to the herlocher's mustard empire, who used to own the train station. It could be back!

Free Release Valves and pretzels for everyone!!!

Here's a story for you. As an engineering undergraduate in a weed-out major, I didn't have time to hang out in the bars, but I was able to visit the Train Station a couple of times. I liked the pretzels, honey-mustard dipping sauce and the potent Release Valves. Fast forward 5 years. I married a fellow PSU'er and sometime during the courting process she shares that her roommates used to drag her down to the Train Station most every Sunday afternoon for libation(s) and pretzels.

Who ever said that majoring in something that offers gainful employment is the wisest thing to do? Sometimes you find out that life really isn't fair after all.

If the Train Station re-opens, I'm going to learn how the other half lived while I was at PSU.

If I remember correctly, Herlocher owns the building and has done the same thing every other time a bar in that location closes. It is probably part of the lease structure. I wouldn't necessarily read this as a sign of the Train Station's return.

I guess it was probably "a business decision" that closed the Train Station. If that was the case, it rivals Silas Redd in the Annals of Bad Business Decisions.

Had the Train Station/Cattle Car complex remained open up into the present day, it would be rivalling any other business in town for Best State College Tradition.

The closing of the Train Station was the day "some things never change" changed forever for me. I lived on Cattle Car hoagies and Release Valves for a significant part of my time at Penn State. The extremely popular (some of you would not believe how popular) french onion soup was not my thing, though.

Are you talking about the Train Station sub / hoagie shop that used to be to the left of McClanahan's? If so, I am excited, as they had the best Turkey subs I can remember. This was in the early to mid 1970's!

Manatree is exactly right. This doesn't mean a return. That train as they say has left the station.

Why don't one of you guys quit your day job, lease the building, and and reopen the train station? I'm sure it would be a huge hit with Alumni, and if the food/drinks are cheap enough the students will come.

Yep.

The only think bolder than an armchair quarterback is an armchair businessman.

im in....

Still remember that first nice/warm day in spring when they opened the Train Yard in the back. Sitting there with a bunch of friends scarfing down pretzels and drinking pitchers of Release Valves! Still hoping to invent that time machine.

Sadly, I'm guessing that train-themed bars are viewed as passé for this generation of college students. That's just a guess without market research and may have something to do with why the original closed 30 years ago.

My parents used to hit that spot regularly, but as a kid, I never saw the lure.
