Offensive lineman was an AFCA second-team All-American at Cornell in 2021



UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State football has announced the addition of offensive lineman Hunter Nourzad. Nourzad comes to Penn State after spending the last four years at Cornell University.

Career:
Finished career at Cornell starting 20 consecutive games at right tackle.

Awards: 2021: Earned second-team All-America honors from the AFCA…Picked up third-team All-America laurels from Phil Steele…Named Phil Steele’s Ivy League Offensive Lineman of the Year…Was a first-team All-Ivy League selection…Earned Academic All-Ivy League Honors…Was a semifinalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy…Named to the NFF Hampshire Honor Society.2019: Earned second-team All-Ivy league honors.

Season: 2021: Started all 10 games...Led an offensive line which led the Ivy League and ranked fifth nationally with 0.9 sacks allowed per game, three fewer than any other Ivy League school allowed…Cornell’s offensive line allowed a school record-low nine sacks, besting a previous mark of 17 despite ranking second in the Ivy in pass attempts…The Big Red were second in the Ivy League and 16th nationally in fewest tackles for loss allowed (4.2 per game)…The Big Red didn’t allow a sack against nationally-ranked VMI, Colgate or Penn and no more than two in any game. 2019: Started all 10 games at right tackle…The offense increased its scoring average, total offense and rushing touchdowns from 2018…The offensive line allowed one sack of less in the team’s five of seven Ivy League games…Team tallied four games with 400-plus yards of offense and two, 200-yard rushing games.

HIGH SCHOOL

Was a two-year captain at The Walker School, where he played for head coach Matt Casper…Named a two-time all-state selection by the Atlanta Journal Constitution, Recruit Georgia and the Georgia Athletic Coaches Association…Earned three-time all-region honors, including two years on the first team…Was named Regional Lineman of the Year as a senior…Also picked up first-team all-county honors as a senior…Lettered in lacrosse and track and field…Earned all-region honors in the shot put.

PERSONAL

Full name is Hunter Lee Nourzad…Son of John and Jamie Nourzad…Has a sister…Earned degree in Engineering at Cornell.

A total of 38 lettermen are returning for Penn State in 2022. The Nittany Lions return 12 starters – six on offense, five on defense and one on special teams. PSU will face nine teams who participated in a bowl game during the 2021 campaign.
