Whisky refused to let him enter the portal. He transferred anyway.
This will be an interesting case.

Wisconsin should take this court and seek a restraining order until a verdict is rendered. An lawless process has now become even more than lawless.

If this goes to court the portal will cease to exist. Game over with this

The NCAA issued a statement Friday saying that "NCAA rules do not prevent a student-athlete from unenrolling from an institution, enrolling at a new institution and competing immediately."

With the latest Dept of Ed ruling he will be sharing his NIL compensation with the women's fencing team.

Something needs to be done . This is just still the beginning . It's embarassing to see what has happened

If Wisconsin would have just let the kid leave we wouldn't be in this situation but they wanted to be petty and now the portal is dead and kids can do whatever they want. It's an amateur sport...we all know how the court will rule.
Pretty soon there's not going to be a limit on how many years they can play as long as they're enrolled.

Honestly, I still think this is what Beau should have done (i.e., played for PSU and entered Missouri for post-graduate work at the start of their Winter/Spring Semester. Given that Beau graduated from PSU in the Fall 2024 Semester, he should not need to enter a "Transfer Portal" to enroll in his new school for his post-PSU-Graduation work.

He could have done that using the portal

It is puzzling with Wisconsin refusing to sign the documents for Portal entry. They said he signed a two year NIL deal before the decision to leave. I assume that deal would be voided, no money given to the player and he gets his release, unless he took money and the NIL sponsor wanted it back, complained to UW and the result was a refusal to release.
What a mess and like several have mentioned with the NCAA statement, this could mean the portal isn't required.

Agreed--and, the worst part, if he had signed a contract and received money then he'd owe it back but it sounds like he never received any funds
I understand the schools are trying to get control but they're only destroying the limited power that they still have
If people think it's the wild west right now--they have no idea what's about to happen IMO

That sums it up. No oversight = do whatever you want.
What’s next; players who already have played some kind of pro ball deciding to play some more college ball? At this point, who could stop it? There obviously are no more rules anymore and it’s a total free for all.

In all seriousness, we’re definitely headed for players playing for multiple schools in the same season, which happened quite frequently when college football just was getting started. Back to the Future! Yeah.

Terrific!
Please stop putting restrictions on students simply based on their level of athletic ability.
The fact the NCAA or a conference or a school wants power over a kid because they play a sport is so ridiculous.....It's literally why these things are falling apart, because they were bullshit to begin with and folks are finally taking back control of their own future no matter what big brother says.
Kudo's to being that kid!

The solution is so simple. D-1 college football needs to be transformed into a pro league in which employment contracts are entered into between the school and players that carry rights and responsibilities for both parties, and there also needs to be a salary cap. This effectively would remove the scam that is NIL, because we all know that’s become pay for play, and would add some stability.

You'd need everyone to agree to this THEN you'd still have NIL on top of it just like NFL players have NIL deals. It's not this simple.

It's hard to fault a kid who wants to be closer to his father with a “serious, life-threatening illness". Not sure I wouldn't do the same.

It's been a pro league for 30+ years, only the money wasn't being distributed to players like a "typical" pro league. The money hasn't changed, how it's being moved around has.
I'm so glad the kids are finally getting a piece of all this, as I browse Dicks and see some officially licensed Penn State jerseys with the words Barkley & Parsons across the back....Name, image and likeness, you know people are buying those jerseys as much for that name on the back as they are the name on the front. I never seem to see people wearing those #63 jerseys, sorry Joe Iorio.

That’s why there would need to be a salary cap; I think that would mitigate the effect of NIL. Also, if players were being paid by the schools directly, which they should be, I believe that you’d see NIL largely dry up.

I think that we are headed somewhere in this direction whether the schools like it or not because what’s happening now is unsustainable for the operation of a college program, and I’m sure that almost every head coach would agree with that. The original intent of NIL was to reward athletes who had their names on the backs of jerseys sold in team stores and who were being used in video games; it was not intended for play for pay, which is why SMU received the death penalty.

I wonder what the rationale will be after next season when he probably enters the portal again. It’s always something.

Okay, but if it were a true form of NIL, that would affect maybe a handful of players on the big teams like PSU, and almost nobody on the anonymous teams. The problem now is NIlL has devolved into play for play, for which it never was intended.

The salary cap doesn't impact NIL. It can't. It would be the TV revenue money. You can't tell businesses they can pay a kid money for NIL or a kid that they have limits on that. See the court cases.
I agree on the initial intent but that's no longer relevant.

I disagree...players are still going to chase every dollar. If Penn State is offering 4M but Ohio State offers 3M plus 1.5M with NIL deals then they'll likely go to Ohio State.

I am sure I am missing some of the details, but I will throw this out anyway...maybe we should start by having these 'student athletes' adhere to the schedule that the rest of the students need to follow. At this point, I am sick of the special exemptions given to these kids.

My kid is applying to various colleges for this fall and there are hard deadlines - if he snoozes, he loses. In contrast, the kid from Purdue (DB) rolled into ASU's campus on the day classes started last week and registered as a student. Do you think the average student can do that?

No but these aren't the average student
They bring way more value to the University than most
I'm also certain exceptions are made for others. All classes are recorded...its easy to make up a week or two.
Also, this would mean all kids can leave the day class ends in the fall and have until class starts in the spring to pick a school. Same with spring summer/fall depending if they enroll for summer. Would that be better or worse?

Being petty ? Love that Wisconsin has taken a stand..someone has to.. .this is ridiculous..if we are treating College sports.. like a business.. and athletes getting paid.. are employees.. curious if “ non compete” causes instituted into their contracts..that would be wild…I agree with others though.... Trump will step in and help fix this by the time his term is over..

He wasn't being paid though that’s why he left.
All Wisconsin figting this will do is eliminate the portal so there's less controls.
Trump's administration will help with Title IX nonsense but not this. They'll side heavily with the players...the conservative courts have proven that.

Disagree. Think he will make it fair. If you are technically a paid employee.. which these “ student athletes” are now.. there has to be a balance to correct their employers as well.. this kid left because of money and no doubt an unscrupulous agent.. which BTW is where much of any new legislation should be focused on., if this circus continues.. many programs will be left without bigger programs like football/basketball..then one could argue monopolies have taken place..who does it hurt in the long run ? True student athletes.. we will already see the elimination of the “
Walk on”..

I think you're being very optimistic. I'm not sure what you think Trump can do--the courts will not be siding with the programs. We've seen that. I hope you're right but I think this is just wishful thinking.
If they're true employees the "cap" will be WAY higher than 20M
Also, not sure how you can prove that's why he left--he has stated otherwise. An agent's job is just to do what is best for his client--he or she did nothing wrong here.

Agents depending on how they negotiate can get up to 20% ? I’m sure they have the Student Athletes concerns as their highest priority LOL..

They want future clients--they care about the best interests of themselves and the players.
Let's not pretend the top concern for many players isn't money

It totally is.. thus my original comment on the kid transferring from Wisconsin..it’s all about money lets not kid anyone.. just have to
Make sure it does not get out of control and this ultimately destroys opportunity for others…
