They were addressing the problems with paying athletes. Eleanor Cliff(t) stated: Look at what happened at Penn State where they covered up pedophilia to protect football! There was absolutely no notion of allegation or rumored abuse - she stated it as a fact and no one corrrected her. I hope everyone contacts CBS and demands an apology from Eleanor ON THE AIR!! This would be a good thing for our vaunted alumni association to take on. Thoughts?

she should be educated. by lots of people. on twitter: @ElanorClift @McLaughlinGroup

Didn't even realize that show was still on. She was always bad. PSU definitely should address those comments and inform her about the dance marathon where she could actually donate and do something for children. She and Olberman are two of a kind.

Folks have spent decades trying to educate Eleanor on a number of issues...

...good luck with that.

So in recent weeks, PSU and JVP have been trashed on the Olbermann show,
the McLaughlin show and SNL, and the BoT conducts business as usual,
President Barron fails to correct the record and Rodney Erickson's name
is still on a building; yet, the statue and the wall have not been
restored and Joe Paterno has not been honored. Why should any
fair-minded person give any money to this university?

Our Alumni Association has not time to answer Ms. Clift. They are busy trying to screw up their
election.

Site is broken. Info and Eleanor Clift are incompatable. nfm

All of this stuff is impossible.

Clearly, the Sandusky/Paterno situation is all a distant memory by now.

Right, Karen the C?

^^^^Winner!!!!^^^^^^...

It is why every time PSU calls I tell them they will start getting my money again when they honor Joe. They certainly won't see any of my 7 kids or my money until then. I will only buy tickets on secondary markets. I love the team, I still hate the school leadership.

I am among many who have stopped giving but I have a very good friend who has not. I realize that my withholding of funds is not likely to accomplish much because not enough others have joined in the effort. Still, in good conscience, I cannot, and will not, give a dime to be used by what I believe to be an incompetent and corrupt leadership. I have said before, I am very close to cutting all ties with this University and never looking back. I really just don't give a damn anymore. It is only like minded spirits on this Board, and among my friends, that keep me in the fold. If it happens nothing on this earth will get me to come back.

Psu admin doesn't care to respond, they seem to encourage these acts

Why should we care or give them money? They'll just use the money to pay an anti-psu person to come and speak on campus.

It is amazing, truly amazing, that nobody ever comes to our defense.

If the U had been trashed on SNL, Donna Shalala would be front and center defending her school. But us? Nothing.

Nothing Ever.

Has any institution ever, in the history of human events, never ever even tried to defend themselves? It is mind-boggling.

I have no way to confirm, but my firm belief has been...

that Penn State acts and makes decisions based solely on the recommendations of whatever law firm/spin doctor/ PR firm they are paying the most money to on a given day. They are doling out cash to how many different PR firms going back almost 4 years now. They are going to do what they are told, which is quite obvious by now: nothing.

Penn State has to have been told very early on that you are going to lose a certain percentage of your support base, financially and otherwise. Write it off, it's not coming back. Do what we are telling you. Don't utter anything in your defense, ignore all the missiles, they don't concern you personally. The alums will choose their path.

According to people like Barron, the applications are a tsunami, and the various outlets that rank schools still put PSU high enough that students are interested in coming here in droves for their education. The pulverized pride and ignored complaints of the old, outdated, outmoded fans and alums such as dwell on this forum are of no concern to the new Penn State. I guess I don't blame them, smarter people than me with no emotional ties to the place and no degree from here are calling the shots. Penn State as we knew it is gone forever and it ain't coming back and to quote a famous song, "they'd thank us very kindly if we'd all just bugger off."

That really is the heart of the matter for me. I am not wed to the past and I realize change, for good or bad, is inevitable. That said, Penn State continues to evolve into a place I barely recognize. There are still a lot of good great things, like THON, and Russ Rose, and the Schreyers Honors College, but our leadership has acted, and continues to act, in ways that are antithetical to my values, and they have destroyed the reputation of a great man and a great University in the process. The sad part for me is I've reached a point of almost not caring. One could argue that means I am turning Penn State over to the Barrons, and Massers, of the world, and perhaps I am, but life is too short to dwell on things I cannot change. It is clearer to me every day that the people in charge have rigged the process so that all efforts at change amount to little more than tilting at windmills. I'm close to tapping out.

Well,...before we "bugger off", let's bugger every f'n one of them.*

What you say is very well spoken, yet so sad but true. In less than 24 hours we have been trashed twice, and there won't be a peep from Old Main or the BOT. They just allow us to be attacked by people that have no vested interest in Penn State, only that they have mics and a forum. And the longer times goes on, in my opinion, the less likely PSU will ever honor the great man you speak of. It makes he heartsick to think of it.

The opportunity for positive change passed very quickly...

there would have been a hell of a lot of collateral damage if a certain course of action was taken so maybe it's better this way. Just wear your scarlet letter and get on with life.

I strongly suspect they pick and follow the PR firms based on

how much damage they can do to psu's rep as a round about way of justifying their decisions.

The only chance to right the wrongs

is the Paterno suit. If the chips fall perfectly, they will be forced to modify their response. Otherwise, you are right.

Re: The only chance to right the wrongs

The best chance went down the drain with Corman. All those in PA need to remember that when he comes up for re-election. He knew what the real Penn State community wanted and he chose the other direction. The members of the Penn State community need to chose another direction when he goes on the ballot again.

I was not, but have started giving again. I just gave the College of Engineering $.02, to go with my sustaining life membership to the AA for the same amount.

Gambit, the only way to get the message across is to stop giving, stop buying, stop supporting in any financial means.

If enough people had the stones to actually do what you've done, I'd bet anything that these dullards wouldn't be in power today.

They bet that people, in mass, wouldn't do what you did and enough would still support PSU. Guess what? They were 100% right.
