The outrage was swift and justified.

The government telling us to sleep with the thermostat set to 82 degrees? A “starting point” for saving energy costs is never turning the dial below 78 in summer?

If that sounds like the Obama administration, it’s because it was.

The sweat-to-death recommendations that went viral this week can be traced to an Energy Star report released in 2009 (page 8), a product of Obama’s Environmental Protection Agency. Energy Star is a joint EPA and Department of Energy program.

The Department of Energy, led by Rick Perry, assured us the Trump administration’s position is “Americans should set their thermostats to whatever temperature they choose.”

Americans controlling the air conditioning in their own homes? A novel idea, but one the Democrat’s Green New Deal does not allow. Seventeen presidential candidates support the radical proposal, which aims to control every aspect of our lives by putting the government in control of our buildings and our homes (and more).

This week Bernie Sanders released his own version, with a $16 trillion price tag, a bargain compared to the $93 trillion original. But the mission is the same: throw out our entire way of life through a “wholesale transformation of our society.”

Sanders uses climate change as a means to realizing his socialist vision where the government guarantees “health care, housing, and a good-paying job to every American.” The Green New Deal was always about transforming away from capitalism. Likewise, Sanders “will not leave it to the market to determine the fate of the planet.”
