UCLA Game

Was notified last week we got tickets through PSU, I am thrilled!
Have hotel and flight booked. Just have to secure rent a car which will be easiest part.
Tips/Recommendations for Pasadena?
Thank you in advance...
If you have the Friday before the game free or Sunday then here are some suggestions.

-Getty Center
-Tour of one of the movie studios, Warner Brothers, Sony or Paramount
-Huntington museum and gardens just outside of Pasadena
-Descanso Gardens in La Canada Flintridge which is next to Padadena.
-The UCLA campus in Westwood is beautiful as is Westwood so you can go visit that area.

Pasadena has many good restaurants just depends on what kind of cuisine you prefer.

If heading over towards UCLA, the Getty Museum is worth seeing, and Malibu is closeby. The hills above Malibu are pretty cool, and you can circle back towards Pasadena and catch Mulholland drive and come out at one of the Studios. That would make a full day trip.

Visiting one of the urban beach area can get you a feel for what The Beach Boys were singing about.

Malibu is most convenient if visiting UCLA- but take the time to go more into town rather than just see the water @ Rogers beach.

Walking the boards from Santa Monica to Venice Beach is good exercise and better people watching. Sorta like a Times Square meets Bourbon Street coupled with lotsa weed smells. The basketball courts from White Men Can't Jump are usually full and there is an amazing skateboard area. Free, fun LA Americana. The Canals in Venice are super neat too...extend your walk a few blocks East to see them.

Enjoy!

Those beaches are pretty close to the airport and well worth visiting. One of my boys lives in Hollywood and when I visit him, he picks me up at LAX and we’ll spend the afternoon at the beach. Has anyone stayed at that Hyatt in Pasadena? I did book a room there in case I go. Any other thoughts or comments on where to stay?

We are staying at the Langham Huntington in Pasadena. Figured it probably is a once in a lifetime trip for us, not spring chickens anymore! lol

I may go to the game as well. I rented an AirBnb in Malibu since I will go with a group of friends. If it were just me and another, I'd stay at the Renaissance Hotel at LAX. I'd Uber to the game to avoid parking. If I want a car, the rentals are across the street from the hotel so I'll just go get one and then bring it back. But I'll probably rent a van but still Uber to the game anyway.

Malibu is nice but I haven't been there since the fires. I understand north malibu has been spared do five star Geoffrey's is still there along with Paradise Cove (on the beach where a lot of the old CA beach surf movies were filmed). Venice/Muscle Beach is always a must as well as is the Santa Monica Peir. If you've never been, TCL Chinese Theater and the Hollywood Walk of Fame is a blast. As others have said, a good hike is to go upt to Griffith Park and Observatory where you can get great photos of the Hollywood sign.

My son was in Manhattan Beach yesterday was a college buddy whose dad was a big wig @ Fox.

Family home is below the Getty w full Ocean views. They were the only house in their neighborhood to survive mostly in tact. However due to smoke damage, and the relative PTSD of the barren landscape coupled with excavator sounds the parents are renting elsewhere for awhile.

Crazy apocalyptic stuff!

Pasadena is a beautiful city and the Rose Bowl is majestic setting but the one bad thing l remember about the stadium is how uncomfortable it was sitting on the benches. If l remember correctly there were metal bars as seat backs and l had zero leg room. I'm rather tall but it was really bad. This was the 95 game vs Oregon so hopefully they changed them since.

There are chair backs on the sidelines. They may still have benches in the endzones, but that was back in 2008 when I got stuck there.

Thank you! How long and how much???
Took a couple hours. There was a bit of a wait to get in. At the end, you can spend as much time as you want in the Cafe. They have the set of Friends there, including Central Perk. A lot of photo opportunities for Friends fans. Link below with pricing.

As an 80s kid, my favorite part, we were in a random alley and the tour guide said look around, this is where the photo for the Prince Purple Rain album was shot. I looked it up on my phone. Looks exactly the same.

We saw the cast of Abbott Elementary on the tour. Kids all walked by our golf cart waving and smiling. Guide said we just missed Clint Eastwood.

Wife recommended do a quick search of WB movies and TV shows to specifically ask about. There is so much there it’s impossible for the guide to tie every show to it.

There is a 50/50 chance I'll be in Carlsbad for an extended period this fall that should cover UCLA, at the expense of Oregon. Should be pretty easy to unload those though. As always, I recommend heading south toward San Diego rather than LA though heading north into the Central Coast is very nice.
