UL president Neeli Bendapudi expected to be named next PSU president

I guess college presidents are like college football coaches and players now. I wonder how much damage she'll do to PSU in her two or three years there before she moves on to do damage at another institution.

To me it is just rather shocking that we are constantly bringing in outsiders.

Outsiders of the school.
Outsiders of the state.

Seems a position like this should require some care or love of the institution.

It's mostly a figurehead position.

These hires are only made to appease the source of the money and that's the Fed. They could care less on whether the people stay or not. Just do not ruin the gravy train which is Federal research funds, federal grants, diversity credits, tuition, and enrollment. She's an academic probably has little sense of running a "business" which is exactly what it these university's are now. They are corporations. She's not a CEO. Barron wasn't a CEO. None of them have been

Bryce Jordan, Texas, Joab Thomas, Alabama, Graham Spanier, Nebraska, Lincoln, Rod Erickson, basically homegrown.
Who’s the worst of that group?

Yes I understand but the school was founded 170 years ago.

At some point the alumni base and or state should have better products.

Average tenure of a college president has dropped to 6 years (based in 2017 data). Several headhunters dominate market by conducting national searches (even for regional colleges).

How many administrators work for PSU right now?

A handful?

Thank you Penn State for taking Little Miss Sunshine off our hands! Say goodbye
to Sports!
Could you eleborate? I did a quick search and saw a story on UL implementing furloughs and pay cuts related to the pandemic but nothing specific to her being anti-sports.

Brandon Short has been very supportive of her on social media. He’s been very vocal about increased funding for the football program. Gotta think he believes she will be a friend to the athletic program.

Who could possibly have predicted the hiring of a woman of color. I'm shocked, I say, shocked. I guess there were no eligible felons this time around. What a colossal clown show this place has morphed into....

David R. Smith was on his way to becoming the next president of Penn State University. Instead, he resigned Thursday amid a pay scandal.
Penn State trustees scheduled a meeting for Oct. 30 where they were expected to vote on a new president, but canceled it abruptly. Then on Nov. 5, the Albany Times Union revealed that Smith, president of the State University of New York’s Upstate Medical University, was the preferred pick for the new job, but was in the middle of an investigation into allegations he padded his state pay without authorization.

Smith was taking home $625,000 in compensation from SUNY. Smith allegedly took in outside money from two companies linked to SUNY: Medbest Medical Management Inc. and Pediatrics Service Group LLP.
The same day the Time Union report came out, SUNY announced Dr. Gregory Eastwood would become officer-in-charge of SUNY Upstate Medical University "effective immediately" while Smith was on leave. Eastwood previously served as president of the campus from 1993 to 2006.
Two days later, Smith announced Thursday he would resign from his post at SUNY.
Smith said in a statement he'd been working with SUNY system leadership to "conduct a review of all of sources of my compensation" while he recovers from surgery.

"To avoid further distraction for the University from its important mission," Smith said, "I intend to submit my resignation as president of SUNY Upstate Medical Center, so that this great institution can move on to even greater success."
Eastwood confirmed Smith's resignation and said the outgoing president left behind a "substantial legacy."
Penn State's trustees said they still plan to pick a new president before Rodney Erickson vacates the position on June 30, 2014.

No, they just name scholarships after felons now.

I don't know anything about this candidate, but getting a President from Louisville seems bizarre to me. All football non-rivalry junk aside, PSU is a top academic institution. Louisville is 3rd rate academic institution.
Whoa, Nellie! Let's hope she brings some "big uglies" with her....

Female of color. Automatically moved to the top of the list regardless of ability.

She seems like she's got some energy which should be a breath of fresh air after the current dullard. Hopefully she uses that energy appropriately.

Maybe she never had the opportunity at a top tier university. The UL job came about and she took it. From what I've read, UL's academic ranking (Forbes) has risen in the few years she has been there. Meanwhile, PSU's has fallen under our current do-nothing president.

The Chancellor at Pitt (same role as President at Penn State) was never a university president prior to becoming President at Pitt. He worked in government. I have no idea how well he is performing at Pitt, but how did his prior experience qualify him to be be Chancellor at Pitt?

I knew the old white guys on this board would hate this hire as soon as I saw it wasn't an old white guy.

I like that she was born in India and came here to the US for success. Such immigrants usually have tremendous work ethic and appreciate things like liberty, freedom, the Constitution, a merit based society instead of class based, our economic system and engine, and more.

She has pushed back against BLM’s extremist views which took some courage for a university president. She studied at Kansas U and was vice chancellor and Dean of the Kansas school of business. Taught at Ohio State and Texas A&M. Glad to have one with strong midwest ties instead of a east coast, far left mindset.

She seems to lean forward instead of working in the shadows like Barron. Her doctorate is in long term business relationships between customers and businesses and how brand is important. So the Penn State brand should be a key factor in her decision making.

Going to be interesting to see how she utilizes her expertise and how she interacts with the BoT.

Have no idea how she will work out. Being a ‘woman of color’ likely helped open the door but now that she is in the room she needs to perform.

Diversity hires tend to have sub-optimal outcomes, but maybe she will work out just fine. Conversely, people who are hired primarily because of their qualifications, regardless of race, gender, or sexual orientation, tend to have better outcomes. I truly hope she is of the latter category and hits it out of the park.

I hope the new president's agenda of inclusion and diversity includes properly honoring Joe and going after the B10 for the stolen Bowl money.
She might have what it takes to move PSU right to the top of the wokest of them all list. I can see the Federal money and agenda rolling in.

Nothing against her didn’t care what gender or race we hired at all it’s just that a lot of people on the Louisville forums don’t like her.

Help us as to why. Too woke? Not woke enough? Personality? What’s the deal?
Not saying it’s true but If you look at the Louisville forums everything from too PC, doesn’t like sports, micromanaged the athletic department, blamed her for not getting Jeff Brohm and the Chris Mack situation. Having said all this she may turn out to be a fantastic president. Did not care for Barron.

I agree with what you said about immigrants from India. Really excellent people.

Now, tell me her major is Mathematics, Engineering, or Physics. Please. Tell me it isn't some garbage degree.

Business / marketing or along those lines IIRC
