I think it is probably to PSU's advantage for UW to win out -- a three loss UW team could maybe sneak back into the top 25 by the end of the year but wouldn't be seen as a quality win.

If Michigan loses 3 games, but those three are to UW, PSU and OSU (with the latter coming in the last week), I think they probably are still comfortably in the top 25 when we play them AND are probably still in the top 25 come bowl time.

Thoughts?

It will be really interesting to watch a couple of games this week.
I think the Iowa/MD game friday night should be a lot of fun and show us a good bit of what to expect.
The wiscy/Michy game is the other because I want to see the Michy run game against a good defense and what happens
to Michy if they cant run.
And I always want Michy to lose.

Unfortunately the kind of thing that could/will keep PSU out of the playoff; I do think the committee weighs the ranking of the team 'at the time the game is played' so a win over a 'ranked at the time' Wisconsin and a 'ranked at the time' Michigan helps our case the most. Even if Wisconsin turns out to be sucky, it's better we beat Michigan at their perceived best (and with their best record).

This is a good point, but I'm not sure anyone really knows how the committee evaluates wins. I am 75% certain the just "eye test pick" their teams and then reverse engineer whatever narrative fits their picks (i.e. they could talk about ranking at time of game OR end of year ranking depending on what suited their argument better).

Just win out and PSU is fine. Honestly, even at 11-1, PSU ought to be in with the way this year is playing out.

I also think we don’t want to risk playing a 3-4 loss team in indy( wise lose to um , psu, beat iowa). Uw could easily get to Indy with 2 big loses and maybe 3

They look at the number in the loss column. That’s it. Everything else is window dressing.

Michigan losing increases our margin of error/gives us more potential paths to the championship game.

If it's B1G East (non-PSU) vs. B1G West, I'll pull for the west team 95% of the time. It helps our CCG prospects.
This. While I generally subscribe to the philosophy of wanting future adversaries to succeed, particularly when the past adversary is already accumulating other losses, the BiGE is potentially too tight to wish them well here. You want them to have at least one BiG loss going in.

Rooting for the Badgers, but I don’t see how the B1G allows UM to lose this game. Propping up Mich until “The Game” is important to this corrupt conference.

The only downside to Wisconsin winning would be that it buffs up Norte Dame’s schedule. But since we played the Badgers to it shouldn’t really impact in a PSU vs ND comparison (if it comes to that). So go Badgers!

You seem to be the only guy in this thread up to this point that actually gets it.

If your goal is to get into a politically fixed beauty contest, where you have to be the most beautiful, you absolutely want Michigan to win tomorrow. in fact you want them to win by 50. Especially since Notre Dame already thrashed Wisconsin.

Make Notre Dame look as bad as possible. After this weekend against Cincy, they have a cake walk. We have no control over ND. But we do over Michigan. Anything that makes that ND blowout over Wisky look less impressive is good for us in the long run.

We can take care of Michigan in November. If we beat them, and we are the only two teams with one loss at the end of the year, we go to the Championship game.

Oh. And whoever said they want to play Wisconsin in the Championship Game at this point is beyond brain dead crazy. That is a no win situation. We want an Iowa team with no more than one loss (to us): Even if they beat us, we would still have a chance for revenge.

Don’t want to play them in the BIG, but it certainly could happen. UW beats iowa, there are limited options in the west

I'm all for helping UM secure their rightful place as no better than 3rd in the East. GO BADGERS!!

We want Michigan to lose. We need them to realize they are truly losers. Winning gives them too much confidence. And we want Rutgers to shit can Ohio State. Excuse my French.

This too. We want Michigan coming to town dejected and resigned to their fate as a 3rd place (or worse) in the division. We don't want them to be confident of being able to win versus us. Rutgers holding them in the 2nd half last week surely has created some doubts, hopefully Wisconsin will be the confidence blasting dagger.

Whiskey becaue if Michigan somehow 1 in a hop scotch butters stotch wins in UP then Ohio over UM and PSU win over Ohio = ratch march with Iowa grease monkey again🤠 4 a spot

Except it isn't all that political for the most part. It's the number in the loss column. For all the talk about the other metrics when push comes to shove, its always 0 losses or 1 loss. Unless you think PSU is going undefeated, or the big ten can get two reps, you want every other team in the conference to finish with at least 2 losses (and definitely in the east). The sooner everyone gets there the better. There are more scenarios where we make the big ten championship game if Michigan loses than if they win, which is basically what happened in 2016. If they beat Iowa in 16, they go over us. Same situation could easily play out this year.

If you do think PSU is going to go undefeated then it doesn't matter what anyone else does because an undefeated Penn State is going to be in the top 4.

Agreed. I’ll also just add that even absent making the playoff, I’d rather see us go to the Big Ten Championship game and (ideally) win it. So anything that helps with that is ideal and again that means East teams losing to West teams when possible.

If we go 10-2 but that gets us to the CCG (but not the CFP) it’s better than not going to the championship.

1) it’s Michigan
2) it’s Harbaugh
3) we play both west faves. Assuming we win both but one ends up in the conference title tilt, who would you want a rematch with? Wisky
4) Mich has been recruiting Pa quite well lately. Hope they lose four or more, Harbaugh goes full Harbaugh, and it hurts their recruiting.
5) screw Michigan

ON WISCONSIN!

It will take some OL , RB, and other skill development, along with a dearth of injuries to run the gauntlet of a B10 east schedule we have. I'm with you in spirit though!

Agree with them (obviously) (always) Michigan to lose.
