UNC's reporting of new violations likely delays NCAA resolution until spring..

Thus, no impact on Tar Heel BB tournament appearance. Lucky in a strange way -- for this season anyway.

I'm going strictly from memory here so I'm sure the people who live in North Carolina or UNC fans here can fill in more accurate details. However, IIRC the original investigation was by an ex North Carolina governor that basically found 'nothing'. The NCAA investigated and found nothing. In the meantime, the Raleigh news observer newspaper continued to find violations and new information that no one else supposedly could. .

IIRC there was another investigation by the university that found some minor violations but nothing big. The newspaper continued to spill more and more. I don't recall if there was an official third North Carolina investigation or not. However, the main point is that without the Raleigh newspaper, this would have been dropped as no violation long ago.

It really does show some effort by North Carolina to conceal these issues and the NCAA willing to go along. Either that or the NCAA investigation team was completely incompetent.

The fact that there are suddenly new violations they've just noticed after what has been years of supposedly putting the school under intense scrutiny has me rolling my eyes thinking this is all about saving the upcoming basketball season national championship chances.

If we all just step back and remember that athletes were put into classes that never happened and given fake grades to keep them eligible IN COLLEGE and the NCAA said that was fine and dandy, it becomes clear what is happening here.

UNC should get the harshest penalties possible. Multiple educational violations in multiple sports. If this doesn't warrant loss of TV revenues and major loss of scholarships, zero chance of being in the NCAA tournaments for 5 years as well as sanctioning of all of the coaches involved (in any way) then the NCAA has outlived its usefulness.

This is academic fraud at its worst.
