How about hombre great flick .The kid at the end of the movie was a white kid captured after his parents were killed.sadly by the time he was rescued his mind was gone.he was not treated well by the apaches Of course the life of the apaches was hard to say the least

This is not what one would typically think of as being a western, but Hud is really a very fine movie which holds up brilliantly.

The Wild Bunch, Cat Balou and Heaven's Gate are all great movies. (Heaven's Gate was panned initially but is now considered a classic by some critics. It is imperfect, admittedly). May I suggest the Criterion Channel. They have a group of movies called Western Noir that is really good and fits the definition of Underrated.

My PSA relative to westerns: do not watch Bone Tomahawk. It’s quite possibly the worst movie I’ve ever seen, and has none of that quirky/campy redeeming values of some bad movies.

I don’t like Westerns. But I love ‘Unforgiven’ - go figure.

The Outlaw Josie Wales.......most Clint Eastwood films are great

I saw The Outlaw Josie Wales 3 weeks ago. Very good film. I agree Clint Eastwood was the bomb in these movies. I will throw in Winchester '73. Also the Horse Soldiers with William Holden and John Wayne. Left Handed Gun with Paul Newman. High Noon with Gary Cooper and Grace Kelly. Gregory Peck in The Gunfighter.

The Shootist.....excellent ....final....western starring John Wayne.

Any Western with Randolf Scott. The most debonair man of the West. Sante Fe, Ride the High Country, and one of my favorites, Ride Lonesome.

A newer one that doesn't get a lot of attention, but that I thought was really good was Appaloosa with Ed Harris and Viggo Mortensen. Great performances by both with a lot of dry humor.

Swerving into the realm of TV movies or miniseries, "Lonesome Dove" and "The Sackets."
