Unfortunately, rather than addressing the "insufficient gate personnel" issue....

like, maybe, working with some temp agency to bring in a couple dozen ticket takers, Tsunami Sandy was spending her week:

Glad-handing with BOT members.....and making sure the appropriate AAAD had instructions to pick up her Saturday pantsuit at the dry-cleaners (so that she could pose on the field with big $$$ donors)

Somebody correct me if I am wrong, but has the gate personnel job always been a paid position? I thought not too long ago it was a volunteer job. You were paid with free entry into the game.

I sure as hell hope she's hitting up big donors. IAC needs additional cash flow because it ain't coming from operations.

BTW, when are we supposed to see the results of that strategic plan she commissioned earlier this year?

I believe Tsunami is holding off on that.....until after Barron's release of his Free File Review. She doesn't want to steal the Big Boy's thunder.

It used to be volunteer and you could watch the game for free. Positions were not easy to get as people held onto them from year to year. Back in the day, it was good to have friends manning gates to let you back in if your ticket was already punched or into the senior section as underclassmen.

Now that they have scanners, you would think the entry would be faster. But ever since 9/11, the gate flow is slower. I don't think the problem is lack of personnel, the later kickoffs promote more tailgating and a surge of fans show up ten minutes before kickoff which overwhelm the queue's.

The "queue" is a mess an hour before kickoff (the time I normally arrive). Saturday I was there about 45 prior to kickoff.....and it was a mess....and I was not even going into the "4 Lines Open" gate.

And God Bless you if you are a woman carrying a small purse......(even though one could just tuck the purse under a sweatshirt or jacket.....and walk past the "security" line. Nice to know that all the hullaballoo is all designed to provide for a "safer fan experience" ;-) Just wait until they try to balance the budget by selling beer in the stadium...LOL )

It is what it is.

Prospective and existing big ICA donors are invited guests of the president at his tailgate. As for any new and meaningful revenue streams from operations, I think you might see the selling of alcoholic beverages at all the revenue sports being placed on the table. Minny and Maryland are already selling beer at football games and tOSU is experimenting in a limited fashion with selling alcoholic beverages this year at their games.

An idea that is sufficiently stupid enough to garner the attention of Tsunami and the Gang. :)

Ahhhhh, Stadium operations.....

You have no idea the insanity that goes on.

I worked several jobs at the Beav. Starting in the parking lots, the press box and finally Gate 1. It seemed like every week we would get another order to do something that was not based in reality. Implementing such orders was enough to just cause people to just walk away from it all. To this day, the logistics of Gate 1 is as broken as it was in the 80's.

I don't miss it.

And of course, it was still Sandy's fault back in the 80s.

Took my wife and I 35 minutes at the gate to get in,,only two opened, then once in and trying to get up the ramp in the stadium was just as bad. The ushers we not even keeping people moving. Stood for almost ten minutes trying to get up ramp on lower level. Almost missed kick off.

? not sure I get your snark.

The issue is that stadium ops mgmt. makes decisions at the behest up the chain of command in the AD, irregardless of the reality on the ground.

It doesn't matter who's in charge in the AD.

You can bet your ass that the people who are charged with making such decisions aren't among those jammed together like cattle / waiting for a ticket-taker / getting poked to see if they have a bottle of water in one of their cavities....

" hey, I hadta wait for the elevator but otherwise got right into the stadium / into the suite... Everything is running so smoothly! kudo's to my staff! "

Gates E (ours), B, F on East had nightmare crowds like I have never seen in over 35 years of season tickets in Ej and now EG. ONE STINKING Gate open, two ticket scanners. We were stampeded, crushed against an unopened gate. Not like they did not know they sold 107,400 tickets, nor that after 8 hours of drinking and the animosity vs Rutgers / PSU fans last year it could get ugly (Visiting section/ North end zone used gate E) We have been to games where we or an opponent was ranked #1, at night, when the stadium seated over 110,000 and have NEVER SEEN it this scary to get into our seats. At least 10,000 people, 45 minutes, drunk, slipping on beer bottles, shoving and pushing us into the unopened gates. I was told " They did not hire enough people to scan tickets so we could open the gates." But they sure as Hell hired a ton of "EVENT" staff in the parking lots to police things.

I've never waited at B nearly that long. Never. It wasn't scary to me, but I was surprised.

This is a defense of incompetence......that it happened before under someone else's watch?
No, it's a retort to the everything was just perfect under Curley crowd, and Barbour is the devil incarnate.

Then it's a poor retort. The issue is about what happened Saturday. It was a serious situation. It requires a serious effort to prevent it from happening again. Only the most strident apologists would argue that everything was perfect in the past but that does not excuse present incompetence and that is exactly what this was.
