Using only the Intermat ranking of top high school wrestlers. I see that...

PSU - has 6 top ten (one #1 and 3 #2's)
tOSU - has 9 top ten (3 #1's, 2 #2's, & 2 #3's)
IA - has 2 top ten (no top 3)

Also notice PSU's are mostly from 126 - 138 while tOSU's are all up and down the line-up

There are still 15 of the top 5 that do not list a college so lots of time for change.

Would like to hear some thoughts/opinions on this.

Is tOSU beating us? Is IA losing the battle?

I think PSU is in good shape and has a little more breadth in the weight classes than you realize.

For the 2018 class:
Teske projects to 125
Teasdale 133
RBY 133 or 141
Joe Lee 157 to 165
Beard 197
Nevills 285

All fill a need, probably the only overlap is 133 to 141 where you have 3 guys including Nick Lee for 2 weight classes. Could also include Busiello in that mix who is in 2019 class. PSU needs depth in the lower weight classes, 125 is walk-ons and Keener graduates, could be 2 true freshmen in those spots next year.

I would be careful, and look at more than one year of recruiting. Teams are defined by 4 and sometimes 5 years worth of new faces, and each time one year drops off, the current year pops up. It is one key to continuous success, and the mantra "reload" vs rebuilding.

Ohio State loses Tomasello, B. Jordan, and Snyder from their current team, and M. Jordan, McKenna, Campbell and Martin next year. They needed a haul and got it.

PSU loses a lot too, counting this year and next, though our 2017 class was better than tOSU's (on paper, right now), so a couple future gaps are already filled. The current class fills the rest. Also, Joe Lee isn't listed in InterMat's High School Rankings, and one particular Senior, surely on the coach's radar, is heading to OTC.

All is good, though our rivalry with the beloved Buckeyes sure appears like it will continue well into the future.

Not worried about it at all. Cael's track record inspires confidence, not concern.

It's all relative. Looking at weight class rankings probably isn't the best metric. I would take a couple of PSU's #2 ranked guys over tOSU's #1s. Just like I'd take Cass over quite a few guys ranked in the top 3 in other weight classes. PSU and tOSU have clearly been a step above in terms of recruiting over the last several years.
