Update: There hasn’t been a whole lot of news on this front since Dioubate committed. Score another big one for the good guys (or are we still the bad guys?). Our board is very small at the moment which isn’t a bad thing at this point in the year and it is full of 4*s. News on most of our remaining guys is pretty unclear Pryts, Ferns, and Nixon could all end their recruitment tonight and it wouldn’t surprise anyone. Tackling one at a time:
Pryts: The OSU site, Land-Grant Holy Land thought he would decide this past weekend, but he did not. It has been said by most everyone that he will decide before the season and could be very soon. I would be surprised if he didn’t pick Penn State at this point. Let’s get a Bat Signal this weekend!
Ferns: I maintain that if he does not visit again, I cannot see him picking us. If news comes out that he and his mother were on campus tomorrow then I would immediately up him to at least “very good chance”. His dad did say recently they were trying to work a PSU visit in before the start of the season but if that didn’t happen then the decision might be delayed into the season.
Nixon: Georgia continues to load up on WRs and Athletes who will play WR and they are our top competition. He had a good visit to Auburn and is now deciding if he should take official visits or set an announcement date. I have to think that is good news for us because if he was going to announce with us and Georgia being the top options then I would think it is because he has seen enough to know he wants to go to Penn State, since this rumor of deciding if he should take officials or not started around the time of his last visit for the Lasch Bash over the summer.

Of the other guys who we would take commits from this minute; Hamlin, Hansford, and Fuller; it looks like each will be taking officials or at a minimum waiting until a few weeks into the season. I would expect some of these guys who remain uncommitted to be on hand for the Rutgers game which should be a decent atmosphere at night, whether it will be their official visit or just a unofficial remains to be seen (also expect a lot of 2017 commits there that night).

Hill is still committed and the notion that him decommiting will help us with Hamlin is NOT in the least bit accurate! I really wish people would stop saying that as the two struck up a friendship at the Opening and losing a top recruit Hamlin likes isn’t going to help us with him regardless if they play the same position or not.

Commit Watch:
4* WR Nixon, 4* S Pryts, 4/3* OLB Hansford

Very Good Chance:
4* CB Hamlin, 4* ATH Fuller

In The Battle:
4* LB Ferns, 4/3* G Valentin, 3* S Hudson

Work Left To Do:
5* DT Gary

Have To Get Really Lucky:
4* WR Diggs, 4* DE Smith, 4* OT Williams, 4* OG Davis, 4* TE Upshur, 4* WR Corley

Former Interest:
3* OT Niang, 3* DT Kamara, JC DT Chavis

My opinion on where we stand with recruits based on rumors, where the coaching staff has made serious effort, offers, tweets (sometimes) and gut feeling. My categories(and their meanings) are Commit Watch (changed from Locks as to not offend recruiting gods), Very good chance(we sit very well with the recruit and are either the leader or perceived leader), In the Battle(We have a good shot and are equal to others or just slightly behind), Work left to do(there is another perceived leader or little information known on recruits intentions), Have to get really lucky(small chance to little to none), and Former Interst(players that Penn State was previously interested in that most likely no longer have committable offers).

How is Hansford on commit watch? Last I heard he was scheduling official visits?

It is not commit watch as in he is going to commit soon, but as in if he committed today I think it would be to us. Read the little note i have at the bottom.

Hudson is not "in the battle" . If he had a committable offer he would be a Nittany Lion by now. Everything I've read is he is a plan B type kid at this time.

There was an NJ.com article about Fuller. He talked about OSU more than anyone. Hansford and Fuller, seems like we're just one of the teams that are recruiting them. Have to get both of them back for visits and knock their socks off or I don't see it happening. Not optimistic about either of them, as of the info out there now.

That's why I have him "in the battle". Where would you put him? BTW the same can be said for Valentin, if he got an offer he would commit on the spot.

I could see an argument for Fuller to be placed in "In The Battle". Things are a little cooled off as his last visit gets further in the rear view.
I really like where we are with Hanford, as I said above my opinion remains if he had to choose today it would be PSU.

PSU is in the battle. They are probably holding off on the offer becuase they have a higher prospect still uncommitted.

Why doesn't Valentin have an offer, grades?

Full for offensive lineman at this point. He kind of blew up after we already had 4 commits. That said if Onwenu wanted to flip we would take him on the spot just because of the talent level (99% not happening but just saying). If we whiff on a couple of the final 6 I've kind of highlighted as auto "takes" then he might get an offer.

Hansford is taking official visits to Florida, UCLA, Oregon, and Notre Dame. Besides him still considering Ohio State as well. Seems like a lot to overcome.

I believe the only one that is truly scheduled is OSU. FL and ND were "could bes" and UCLA and Oregon were "wants". His dad said he would use officials to find out more about schools he doesn't know that well and that Penn State was not eliminated. He was at Penn State twice this spring and was at the Lasch Bash. He has scheduling problems for some of these as his HS team plays on a lot of Saturdays this fall.

Certainly if nothing further develops and he schedules 5 officials elsewhere I will move him down accordingly.

Good job as usual, and thanks. ---FWIW, Nixon won't be committing tonight.....he will wait at least 2-4 weeks , and it may be longer . ---Auburn, not Georgia, is Penn State's primary adversary here. One of Tre's best friends just committed to Auburn about 3 or 4 weeks ago,.... and his ( Tre's) HS WR coach is an Auburn grad. ----He loves Coach Franklin and Coach Gattis, but as a PSU fan watching the daily dynamic, I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

I would put him in the "if we strike out on a few" of the Hamlin,Ferns,Hansford,Fuller crew his offer becomes committable and he is a Nittany Lion. I could see a last minute Bowers/Givens thing with him. Just having a little fun, thanks for your info though!

I always appreciate your posts. It is a great summary for those of us not immersed in the recruiting news. Thank you.

Had to get him on campus, as far as I know we didn't. He's going elsewhere.

Let me clarify that I'd love to be wrong.

Yeah, if the kid doesn't even make a visit it's tough to believe he would ever commit sight unseen.

Looking ahead...

Swift's sophomore clips are straight-up sick.

Is Ferns a silent commit to WVU or PSU?? Someone said he definitely WAS committing a few days ago?,!?.....

I think that was on Twitter and it was bad info. The longer he waits the better it is for us bc it could mean he is trying to get on campus before deciding which I view as necessary if we are to get him.
