7/17 Update: Going into a huge weekend I made some moves. Blue highlights are guys who have publicly said at one point that they were coming this weekend. Some were a few weeks ago though so if something changed I wouldn’t know. Nixon got a CB from a Georgia guy so I will move him up because there is a chance he could pull the trigger to get in front of Patterson’s August 1st decision (although if I had to pick now for Patterson it’d be Duke). Hamlin is a wild card, the most likely scenario is he comes up this weekend and leaves still uncommitted planning to take officials and I move him back down to Very Good Chance next week, but at this moment in time I’m keeping him up there as a possibility bc I have this feeling. I expect Brown and Toney to commit. I think I saw a headline that said Ferns can’t make it due to family obligations elsewhere. I have heard nothing on Dioubate coming this weekend. I moved Pryts down even more bc (and yes I will call myself out on this and say it is creepy but hey it’s out there so why not know it) his gf just decided she was going to Kent State which is only 2 hours from Columbus. Valentin would be on commit watch if he got an offer. I think Fuller is trending too hard to the Buckeyes. The good news there though is it would be unlikely for OSU to take Fuller, Pryts, and Hamlin. I have read they can only take one or two more DBs.

The 2017 list of visitors is even more insane (again most of these names are from a public source from a few weeks ago and some of these guys aren’t confirmed within the last few days; namely Johnson probably isn’t coming. Ones I’ve seen confirmed recently in Blue). Johnson, Wade, Kaindoh, Hill, Ford, Hansard, Adams, Spence, Jeter, Thorpe, Lugg, Roberts, Rivers, Hainsey, Malone-Hatcher, Barber, Neal, & Wade-Perry. Maybes are: Wilson, Thomas, Singleton, Vilain, & Young. Can't find anything on Webb but we lead there. I think Hainsey commits and wouldn’t be surprised if we get more 2017 commits than 2016 commits. I could see Kaindoh, Hill, Ford, Hansard, Thorpe, or Roberts just knowing this is the spot for them and deciding to get in on the ground floor in 2017.

Micah Parsons will be there again from 2018. I expect he’ll be the number 1 player in PA in 2018 and a big time guy nationally. He’s been to campus many times already.

Commit Watch:
4* WR Nixon, 4* CB Hamlin, 4* OLB Brown, 4/3* OLB Hansford, 3* OLB Toney

Very Good Chance:
4* LB Ferns, 4* DL Dioubate, 4* DE Betiku, 3* S/OLB Hudson, JC DT Chavis

In The Battle:
4* WR Diggs, 4* ATH Fuller, 4* S Pryts, 4/3* G Valentin, 3* OT Niang, 3* WR Patterson, 3* OT Adams, JC DT Tanielu

Work Left To Do:
5* DT Gary, 4* WR Smothers, 4* TE Farrell

Have To Get Really Lucky:
4* OT Williams, 4* OG Davis, 4* TE Upshur, 4* WR Corley, 3* CB Rene, 3* DT Kamara, 3* DT Wheeler

My opinion on where we stand with recruits based on rumors, where the coaching staff has made serious effort, offers, tweets (sometimes) and gut feeling. My categories(and their meanings) are Commit Watch (changed from Locks as to not offend recruiting gods), Very good chance(we sit very well with the recruit and are either the leader or perceived leader), In the Battle(We have a good shot and are equal to others or just slightly behind), Work left to do(there is another perceived leader or little information known on recruits intentions), Have to get really lucky(small chance to little to none; including no longer recruiting).

I will update this as I find out anything tonight/tomorrow.

Good work and nice list.

I think we end up with commits this weekend. Two from 16 and one from 17.

Chavis is a commit watch.
I think we are just in the battle with Betiku
With Fuller coming, I think we are a very good chance
Tanielu is a long shot at this point. He has not even been to campus and PSU is a long way from home for him. I don't see him looking at us unless we lose Chavis and CJF puts on the full court press.
I think Gary is really have to get lucky. i.e. have to get him on campus and then maybe he moves up the list.
If Wheeler does in deed still have an offer, he is at least very good chance. But from what we are sensing, we may as well remove him from the list. One way or the other....

Just saw 4* 2017 Safety Neal confirmed as coming. He would also be one who could pull the trigger.

I expect a commit from Chavis and possibly Brown. I'm not sure about Nixon but the next couple weeks will be a window of opportunity for him to commit, if not then his recruitment will drag on and our chances won't improve. I think Hamlin is still waiting to see how things go this season so I'm not convinced he will commit. He knows his favorites, PSU/OSU/Pitt, well by now so it just seems like something else is clogging things up. Hansford still may want to look around, but PSU has seemed to be on the rise there so maybe he comes to a decision sooner that later. Toney is a mystery as his recruiting seems almost parallel to Wheeler in that I would have expected him to commit already so I'm wondering if the logjam of Brown, Hansford, Ferns needs to clear first.

I think a key could be Khaleke Hudson...I believe that will only help with Hamlin and Lamont Wade and Paris Ford next year. The 2017 class could see some real movement now that the ice is broken. Hainsey is obviously the first choice there, but there are a number of Pittsburgh recruits that I'm sure PSU is putting on the ritz for.

And forget Rashan Gary....

From your commit watch I hope we get Hamlin because I heard he is good friends with Sanders. Brown would be a nice addition at LB. I really don't care about another WR.

I'd take all 5 from your "very good chance" category. Betiku would be awesome but he sounds like a long shot. I haven't heard much about the JC DT but we're in serious need of immediate help. I sure wish Barney would redshirt but I guess that's unlikely. Ferns & Dioubate remain my top remaining targets.

Let's say we get:
4* DB Hamlin
4* LB Brown
4* LB Ferns
4* DL Dioubate
JC DT Chavis

That would be 21 total and a very nice class. I'd find a way to add Betiku and make it 22 if we have a chance.

It would. I'm not as high on Chavis. I think Toney is really likely to commit this weekend.

I'm hoping for the following to round out the class; Hamlin, Nixon, Dioubate and Ferns. Sounds like a pretty decent chance Chavis commits soon. That would bring us up to 22. Hard to see any more than that.

I just wish ESPN had hired Lavar instead of the NFL Network. He'd be living in CT. and we'd prob get Betiku too.

Tre Nixon picked up 3 crystal balls this afternoon!! and I didn't see if posted elsewhere but coach hand is having a heck of an afternoon (both on twitter and at the Bash):

the tweet from that troll was deleted before I could see it. I think it was in response to a tweet Herb posted about his daughter coming home from a mission to Haiti.

Shaka Toney commits too. We are close to the over under of 2.5 now. I say way over. I do question what this means for Hansford.

Nice list Magoo. I can't think of a better, realistic list. But I also think with Chavis that would make 5 more and allow the young DT's to come along before they are really put on the spot.

  1. Dioubate would add the finishing touch to a great future DT rotation.
  2. Ferns (or Hansford) would add a true OLB. I love Toney and Brown as athletic OLB's, but both Ferns and Hansford seem to be great LB prospects that could play OLB or MLB.
  3. Nixon would add speed on offense and special teams. We have some candidates to return punts on the roster and coming but until we see someone that excites we need to keep bringing in speed. And some of our WR's could be 3 year players so we need to keep bringing in WR talent. Fuller would also be a great addition to the class as a WR/DB, and most believe Diggs is going south, but never count out CJF. I fully believe we will see a WR in this class.
  4. Hamlin is another great CB with the size to play anywhere in the secondary, just like Lucas. Pryts would also be a great DB to pick up of we don't get Hamlin.
I wonder where the staff would put Hudson, LB or DB, if he commits and what that would do to the rest of the LB recruiting. Or what would a Betiku commit do to the rest of the DL/DT recruiting.

Looks like Hamlin and his family had anther great visit. I don't think he is going to commit this week, but I really think we are in the lead. He is going to OSU next week for Urban's Friday Night Lights camp, which I'm not going to lie is better than our Friday Night Lights camp bc Urban came up with the idea at Florida, so we will see where he stands after that. Ford (2017 S) and him confirmed again recently they are a packaged deal and you can see what Ford tweeted today below. I think Ford and Sanders will be huge influences here that we will win the day. I don't think Pitt is a serious contender there no matter how hard Narduzzi tries or what Pitt fan-made images Hamlin retweets. I'm not saying it offensively it's just the truth, until Narduzzi consistently gets them winning games he's not gonna get someone like Hamlin, even when Wheeler commits soon to him. Probably the biggest hint on Hamlin's intentions can be seen in Shane Simmons mom picture below, only one of the people in the picture isn't already a member of #DaPride16 and he's right in middle of the picture....
