And no thread? Wow, must all be celebrating.

Always good to beat Iran so it’s evil crazy, terror supporting leaders do get any glory out of it.

But sad for the team that had the courage to refuse to sing their national anthem and risk death or torture. All in support for the women of Iran. Hope they are safe and ok when they get back to Iran.

And since most people of Iran are good, well educated people suffering under this terrible regime

Iran would have advanced with a tie so they were all defense in the first half. They had zero shots on goal. Once the U.S. scored they went on defense and Iran went on offense as best they could.

Three games:
1-1
0-0
1-1

Um:

1-1
0-0
1-0

Win and two draws is a great result for this group.

Pulisic got nailed in the balls …. Errrr lower abdomen area. Brave run into the box to put us through.

We actually get a break jumping over to the other side of the bracket. If we get by the Netherlands, we would play Argentina or Denmark most likely in the 1/4s rather than France.

Before the start, USA was the 8th-ranked team according to the betting lines. It is probably tainted due to the number of US bettors but whatever. England was 5th, Iran was 26th. Wales was 29th.

We've got a tough game coming up against the Netherlands which was the 8th best in the betting books.

Giving up the tie to Wales was a huge letdown. We are having problems scoring goals. An Pulisic, by far our best offensive player, ended up in the hospital after scoring his first-half goal. he insists he'll play Saturday but who knows? The Netherlands has not played all that well with a 2-nil win versus Senegal, a 1-1 tie versus Ecuador and a 2-0 win versus host Qatar. Ecuador was ranked 10th coming in. Senegal was 17 and Qatar 30th.

Hope springs eternal!

I’ll take my chances against the Dutch rather than, say, Brazil, Spain and especially France. It’s not a bad matchup for a 2nd place group team.

Looks like England-France quarter looming - good luck with that England
