Dave simply mails it in so I can't justify spending mucho-dollahs to see them live..... but might regret it.... one act I've never seen live

Van Halen Tour / 1st US live TV performance

David Lee Roth is a narcissistic train wreck. I'm surprised he hasn't done himself in. Saw this crew on the 1984 tour and it was one of the worst shows I have ever seen. It was the David Lee doing stupid ninja stuff show from what I recall. And the sound was awful. My favorite song is Unchained. They opened with it. It was at least 1/2 way into the song before I knew what song it was. Blech. Van Halen was, at one point, an outstanding band. Now I'd rather see Backstreet Boys.

Ive combed enough live VH on Tubes-of-You to come-ta-grips with just how bad their live show must be... But I'm tempted to take my 15yr old son... Hopefully my work-connections might possibly bear some free passes

(In all fairness - recordings exist of mid/late seventies live shows where the band is firing on all sixteen cylinders).

The live "previews" of the new album reveal Eddie playing quite well...l butt Dave? OoooooooFAH

IMHO the band from 80's that holds up best live is AC/DC...

I made a deal with my 13 yr old daughter. I take her to One Direction and she goes with me to AC/DC. I did my part. AC/DC tickets this summer at Met Life this summer (front 10 rows) go over $10k each.

I saw VH in 1982 and it was a great show but I have heard they went down hill shortly thereafter.

based on footage I've seen - i can't imagine anyone eclipsing Iron Maiden

I would need to defer to anyone who has witnessed both AC/DC and 'Maiden live.... But from En Vivo and Flight666 there's no denying the precision and passion of recent Iron Maiden performances... Guys are pros and are dedicated to satisfying their fans

Massimo, I know you love this band. They have a history of having tours fizzle out fast, like by the second set of the first show they hate each other. Good luck, buy tickets, enjoy, it might be great but I would temper my expectations.

I am surprised you have never seen them live they way you rave about them.

while I have never experience VH live, I've seen enough on YouTube to

conclude it would be overwhelmingly disappointing...

as fantastic of a showman DLR once was (I will not even acknowledge any other VH frontman) he, obviously, was never a talented vocalist... and everything he once had is gone, gone, gone

I do not want to pay premium prices to see someone who all too much resembles Larry King front my favorite band

Likewise - the venue they are playing nearest me is a horrible horrible concert experience.... at age 49 I can let that go by me

Re: while I have never experience VH live, I've seen enough on YouTube to

How early in the schedule is the show near you? The trick to getting a decent show seems to be to get DLR early enough in the schedule that his voice isn't fatigued.

I saw them live for the 1st time on their last tour. My brief take....

Saw them at Time Warner Arena in Charlotte. Had cheap seat tickets in the back up high. 2 songs in and I looked at my buddy and said "the sound is absolute schit!" I wasn't sure if it was the band or the acoustics of the arena. I wasn't willing to subject myself to such a bad sound sitting where I was sitting, so we both left our seats and worked our way down low. We ended up sitting about 10 rows back towards the side of the stage that Ed plays on. The difference in sound was night and day. It sounded absolutely great from those seats. It was obvious that the acoustics were terrible up high in the arena. If I hadn't moved seats, I too would be of the believe that they sounded like schit.

Of course, this is simply 1 person's opinion that went to 1 show..... take it for what it's worth.

I saw them with Diamond Dave and Wolfie on their comeback tour in Austin...... must have been 5 years ago maybe? Gotta say, I was pleasantly surprised. Hit all the classics.... good show, and Eddie could still jam. Played all of the hits. Crows was into it. I would have recommended it at that time, but I have always loved me some VH. Dave's never been a great singer, but he is a good front man.

5 years later... who knows. But if they pass through Pittsburgh I am in.

In fairness to David Lee Roth...

he is a black belt in karate so the ninja stuff is understandable! :)

If you've never seen them live...

..and you feel like you just need to check it off your bucket list, then maybe it's worth it. But I saw them 7 or 8 years ago with DLR, and it was not very good. The sound quality wasn't great, but that could be due to the acoustics of Meadowlands Arena. To be fair, I'm not a big fan of most arena or stadium shows, so maybe I'm not the person to ask.

Re: based on footage I've seen - i can't imagine anyone eclipsing Iron Maiden

Just saw Seger in KC and I was shocked at how good he and the silver bullet band are after all the years.

I don't know if the Scorpions are still touring......

.....but I saw them some year shortly after 2000 and they put on an outstanding show. I didn't know the guy next to me, but they would play a song and afterward he and I would high 5 saying " that was great" only to have them top it on the next song. They did it all night. They did a 6 guitar instrumental jam that was lights out. This was at Riverport Amphitheater in St Louis.
