Vandy has to pay Kentucky $500K directly for storming the court vs them.

The funds will be paid directly to Kentucky instead of the $EC. Seems like a hefty fine but they are a multiple time offender.

Good. This garbage happened several times this past weekend and needs to stop. Vanderbilt should have to close their student section for a game. This also happened there last week against Tennessee. Also, if you've watched Vanderbilt this season, they're a good team with a fabulous frosh point guard that's going to make the tournament, so it's not surprising that they're winning these home conference games, even against top 10 opponents.

They should line up horses in front of the potential offenders towards the end of the game. It shows the cops mean business, and people tend to be intimidated by animals larger than them. It's really great at deterring mob mentality. Don't give me any excuses about the small confinement of the basketball court, it'll be totally worth it.

At the Vanderbilt game this past Saturday against Kentucky, because of what happened last week against Tennessee, security personnel lined the court in front of the student section before the end of the game, and the students still rushed the court while passing right by these security personnel like they weren't even there.

The only way that this is going to stop is if these conferences force the closure of student sections as punishment for repeated transgressions; this is what happens in European soccer games when fans repeatedly engage in violent or racist behavior, and teams have to play home games in empty stadia.

I respectfully disagree - sent them right up into the stands.

Agree, no students at next conference game should be a punishment

Why didn't the security guards do anything? They just stood there? Is court storming now banned? Were any Kentucky players injured? I know at least half that gym was full of Kentucky fans.

From the NCAA bylaws:

9.6.2 - The following punishments are listed in order of severity:

1. Harsh words
2. Strip scholarships from directional school
3. Harshly worded letter
4. Conspire with BOT traitors
5. The SMU death penalty
6. The Pitt 'no fans' blueprint
Haha. as a high school athletic director we do restrict students from games as punishment. I don’t see why major colleges couldn’t do that as well for a game or two.

After repeatedly poor behaviors along with purported underage intoxication reports- one school in our region had their students banned from attending their schools' club ice hockey team games for THE WHOLE SEASON.

The games are not on campus and the club is made up of students from one, or sometimes a combination of schools, but is not a PIAA sport and not technically a school event. Teachers and Admins avoid going the because only bad things can happen- we are powerless.

But yes- that message seemed to get through- along with local law enforcement punishing offenders. Why not college too?

Seems like a really harsh penalty. I saw the end of that game. Personally I don’t see the big deal of students storming the court after a big win. It’s part of college sports and has been forever.

I agree and wondered if they were violent in some way or possibly injured Kentucky players or inhibited them from getting to the lockeroom. Just running on the court and celebrating with the team seems fine to me. As you say it is part of college sports.

IIRC the SeC had something like a $100,000 penalty anytime there was storming of the court or field. I have a feeling they went after Vandy as the yellow coated security guards who stood in front of the Vandy student section at the end literally made zero effort to prevent them going on the court. They were clearly told to stand there for show but do not engage.

I’m assuming the SEC took that as a shot against their policy.
