Top-ranked 170-pounder Alex Facundo, of Davison, Michigan, commited to Penn State wrestling and stated... “It's an honor to be apart of something as special as Penn State's legacy and I wish to carry on this legacy". I have a great feeling he will.

His duck unders, John Smithesque and his ankle picks remind of how well David Taylor picked them up from Cael. Alex seems ahead of the curve. His size reminds me also of DT's and the reach to be able to execute a perfect, stealthy ankle pick.

Wow- never saw Facundo wrestle. Reminds me of D Taylor and Zahid

Sorry if this has already been discussed, but how does Facundo fit into future lineups that would include Starocci and Brooks?

0:33 -- hits the fabled duck under while down by 1.

Perfectly if he grayshirts:
2021 - Starocci 174, Brooks 184, Facundo HS SR
2022 - Starocci 174, Brooks 184, Facundo grayshirt
2023 - Starocci 174, Brooks 184, Facundo redshirt
2024 - Facundo 174, Starocci 184 (or vice-versa)

If Facundo doesn't grayshirt, another option would be to shirt Brooks in 2023, then one of the 3 could take an Olympic shirt in 2024. (If 2020 criteria are used in 2024, Brooks and Facundo are both eligible as past world medalists.) Though Brooks shirting in 2023 seems unlikely.

Thanks. Hard to factor in all sorts of things, but I guess overall this is a pretty good problem to have with 3 very talented wrestlers who each have championship potential.

I remember thinking Mark Hall would struggle a little bit because he was so reliant on his duck and his counter offense. How wrong I was.

Facundo has a duck to both sides, and no real strength on him at all. I bet he ends up at 184. Cael is going to do wonders with this kid.

Yeah, really liked what we saw in the video.
  • He is certainly comfortable in freestyle; contender for world and Olympic spots?
  • Bulk up some? Yes, he's got the frame for not only 184, but 197 at some point is my guess

I hope this comment was aimed at his smooth technique in the clip from worlds.

In case it wasn't: recall his controversial DQ loss earlier this year. He's in red. Powering into the double from that position takes serious strength -- also, he bumped up, opponent was nationally ranked and the eventual 189 state champ.

While the duck under is impressive, I was actually more impressed with his ability to get out of bad positions and then score. That is something it takes time and experience to do.

Future hammer ... was shocked (and so happy) when we got him. A lot of people thought he was a Michigan lock early then he was trending to Iowa State.

Shows how secretive Cael works haha

Prior to this, I only saw video of him when he wrestled against our other recruit Boone. He looks quicker and more explosive than I remember..

This Boone kid really interests me. Anyone else get the feeling he's got a ton of potential.
Here you can see both Facunda and Boone. Solid basics from both. I will go out on a limb :) and predict more offense after time in Cael's system ("the process").

So, yes, I believe the potential is there for Boone. Cael will provide the environment, much of his improvement will be up to him, same with all wrestlers.

Honestly, Cael has some big guns in mind in 2021 and 2022 for our future 149 and 157 but it's kind of funny, we already have some high potential kids there. Between Busiello/Matt Lee/Austin Boone/Terrell Barraclough, I think we will be strong at those weights regardless. But the more the merrier.

We pick things up and put them down!

Boone handled himself well giving up 8 pounds. Had a pretty good single leg in the 3rd giving him a legit chance to win that match. Was just a bit out-strengthed there in OT. No shame there when you are giving up weight.

So what weight is Boone going at 149 or 157
Get out the crystal ball. I could see him entering the line-up at some point at either weight. A lot depends on his growth, but also what other wrestlers decide, weight-wise. It's a bit early.

Looks plenty strong to me. His arms are just long af

Ugh; I have come to dread those words when applied to any PSU wrestler.:oops:
