So the poster suggesting the team might flip the two tackles may be correct. Looks like I was wrong!

I don’t know if it will help (or even if it’s part of the longer term plan), but I can absolutely understand why they would feel that just about anything was worth a try.

For whatever reason(s), Fries has become a sieve at RT over the last month or so.
I think it's nuts but we'll see. So instead of having one weak tackle you have two. And the d can simply flip their DEs to counter. The only thing I can think of is the injury may be less problematic on the left

To paraphrase the flight director from “Apollo 13”...... “Fries at RT is not an option”, he has just not gotten it done there. Maybe they jump from “Friesing Pan” into the fire, but I imagine they felt they had to try something different (that definition of insanity and what not)
Fries seemed to play pretty well at LT the end of last season and Bates isn’t a T at all just one of the better OL filling a need. I like the move and actually thought Fries would stick at LT and Bates at RT after a dominant performance by our Oline in the Fiesta Bowl. Sometimes players feel more comfortable on a certain side.

The disturbing fact about this post is that it should have been posted in the game day thread!

What are you talking about? Bates has been the best OL no matter where he’s lined up, including guard.

Mcgovern played better a center, should have stayed at center- let Menet play guard.

I wonder if Menet isn't making the right calls? McGovern seems lost at RG sometimes. Looked better there as a freshman. Was solid at C.

Why would you wonder that?

On a whole, the OL feels like it has played worse this year than last year. And that is with the elimination of two dozen or more negative yard running plays. Questions about our S&C are looming again. OL and DL. We can't out muscle our opponents. There is not a blocking scheme nor a defensive game plan that can cure this. Upgraded players still lost two games last year.

But yes, I think we traded experience at calling the assignments for perfect snaps (has Menet flubbed a snap all year? McGovern had a couple last year).
