Yes.....because it showed that even when you are considered so inconsequential (in this case a dwarf planet) that people debate whether to even acknowledge your existance or not, you can still get your 5 minutes of fame.

It gives hope to the Pitt and Kansas football teams that one day someone may spend 5 minutes staring at them (like a horrific train wreck as they pass by). ;)

Yes! Our mission is to boldly go where no man or probe has gone before.
 
Not really, but kind of fun anyhow. Certainly the money could have been used more wisely but than again we are not the decision makers :)
 
The world is flat, we should not do any exploring. With that type of thinking, we would still be using rock tools and living in caves.
