I love watching the extended game highlights that Penn State puts out each week. It gives you a great look at the sidelines, locker room celebrations and speeches as well as player interactions. When I first started watching it I was a little worried about the players reacting to some of James Franklin's one liners. One in particular that I thought sounded a bit fake and it seemed after watching the first few weeks and parts of last season that the players kind of brushed it off.
That line is "It always starts with I love you, and ends with I love you".
After watching this past week's extended highlights (I've embedded below) I was surprised how vocal the players were with it at the end of the video. Honestly, I'm glad I was wrong. Watching the players say that with him and believing in it is what will make this team special. I'm not talking about being special this year. I'm talking about the future.
Fast forward to the 8:58 mark to see what I'm referring to.
With so many freshmen and sophomores playing critical roles on this team it is imperative that they buy in 100% and commit to each other. The one liners from Franklin are part of his operation and it is great to see the players buying in to him and the rest of the staff. Hopefully, the positive energy and focus returns to the field this weekend for a big win over Northwestern. So much young talent and speed is rising to the top, it's going to be an exciting next few years for Penn State.
