pretty funny exchange. Manning getting interviewed and bitterly complaining about an alleged illegal hold that "won't be overturned". Says his kid is tough and wouldn't turn that easy without illegality. McIntosh gets 2 points taken away. 2nd period starts with MM on bottom. Manning says "we start on top and now we'll get a chance to turn this kid". Interviewer - what's his (Studebaker's) favorite position?" Manning - top!

10 seconds later - oops. Mac escapes, then hits a cement mixer.

Watching it again. Interview happens with 2:01 left in 1st. Mac went down after injury t.o.

Speaking of Manning, did anybody hear Jordan Burroughs' interview on the last episode of FRL? He was talking about some of the things he had to overcome to get to where he is today. He mentioned that his coach (Manning) was not even a D1 wrestler in college and that his main training partner (Bryan Snyder) was not even an NCAA champ.

I wonder if they use that in their recruiting pitch: "We might not be all that, but if JB overcame our shortcomings, you can too."

Burroughs is amazing. Sense of humor, measured and mature outlook, and not afraid to speak his mind. That was a good interview.

In my opinion they kind of have to say that to combat the negative recruiting that a few schools in the rust belt may use.

You see Nebraska on a lot of top 5s. So they get in the house but let's face it they aren't closing the deal for some reason.

Red, Breske, Labriola, and Schultz disagree. I know they aren't all top 5 guys, but pretty top flight

When did Schultz commit there?

Here are a few guys they missed on this past year: Hall, Suriano, Keegan Moore, Kanen Storr.

Agree Jefe and Dunk, they need to hit on far more, just saying they don't totally whiff, sorry for confusion, I was talking about Eric from awhile back

If a team makes the top five, wouldn't they on average lose 80% of the time? It seems like you could make a list of "lost" prospects for PSU, Iowa, tOSU or OSU that would be equally or more impressive.

Yes, and ever been to Lincoln? Good luck winning a recruiting battle vs an Iowa, Ok St, TOSU, or PSU. I know there is nothing around some of these other places, but you only have so many John Smiths , Sandersons or Brands in the world. Can't just show up and say we got JB, sometimes he works out here. Especially since so many top recruits come from East Coast now, how you pitching Lincoln? Many of these recruits are looking at so many things Nebraska isn't. Ann Arbor also much easier seller and they're emerging, Minny will always be there ....

Schultz is an animal for those who haven't seen him. Best pickup for the Huskers in a long time.

I've seen him and he IS an animal in HS (although he just got his butt handed to him by another impressive kid from Kansas I think yesterday).

I would hesitate to call him the best pickup for the Huskers in a long time (if he committed there????) It's really tough to project kids at weights like 220 and 285 at an early age. A lot of times they are such early developers that they peak early. Later kids grow and catch up. Plus if your frame isn't big enough the transition to 285 isn't always the easiest. Lots of things can go wrong.

He isn't even the best pick-up in the class lol

Just so we're all on the same page about "Schultz":

Eric, 195 from Illinois, is an incoming Illegal Back Fister. He was a top 60 recruit in the Class of 2016.

Cohlton, 220 from Colorado, is the #1 or #2 incoming HS soph and has yet to commit.

True, I thought I was clear in referencing Eric but I probably replied to the wrong post  Also to note Eric is probably going to be pretty good, although Chad Red I think is going to be a monster

Don't even get me started on Lees

285, maybe more than other weight classes, is a challenge for recruiting. Some talented wrestlers end up going the football route, so that dilutes the weight class....then you have the challenge, as with all recruits from all weight classes, trying to GUESS their college potential.

In 2010, we had #14 McMullen and #19 Telford...both ended as multiple AA's, and #37 Myers, a one-timer. #45 Craig was thought to be a good recruit, but never materialized.

In 2011, we had Gwiz, all the way down the list at #18, and we know how that turned out. He was just ahead of #20 Longendyke, and #21 Krumwiede suggesting Gwiz was only slightly better coming out of HS. We also had #51 William Smith, a respectable wrestler, and #62 Medberry, a steal at this ranking. #25 Marsden was projected at 197...but became 285, and an AA.

In 2012, it was #8 Vollaro, #22 Kroells, and #111 Walz. Walz, with a year remaining, was a GREAT pick-up for Va Tech...but no one knew that in 2012.

In 2013, there was "can't miss" #2 Coon, #7 Cox (ended up at 197, uber-talent!), and a 3rd top-10 heavy in #9 Black. Black has a year left to reach his "projected" potential.

In 2014, all the wrestlers are still young, there was #5 Nevills, #9 Haines, and #14 Stoll, as well as #119 Miller. Story is still being written for these guys, but at #119...Miller looks to be a steal.
