First, i'm not sure where else to ask, so I apologize if anyone is offended I took it here during game week. But i get my best info here, so why not?

Mom is in an Asst Liv Facility in Springhouse.. been there about 20 years. When people "move out" the unit (studio, 1 -3 BR, sqft of 500 to 1100) is remodeled. What was once a makeover is now a gutting of the entire unit, floor to ceiling (inclusive). The place is relatively old and I'm sure it makes sense to do this if only to sanitize and then modernize (aka, make safer and more appealing to buyers).

All good. But what i don't get (and i have background in house building) is how a small unit takes THREE MONTHS to complete. There is no point of sleeping in or napping when it's across the hall or worse, you live under it. Worse, you never know when they might be taking a couple days off, or when they might start up again... iow, can go full tilt and then be sporadic, and then full bore again). Talking to her on the phone is almost a waste of time due to the almost non-stop banging. This will be the 2nd go-round for her in the past 6 months and it's getting old... as is she, and quality of life is an issue.

So my question... WTH are they doing that would take 3 months to do? [All I can figure is they have a very small crew and they do a bunch, then move on, then come back and so forth.] Forget all the renovation programs on TV... our company could put up a block of completed HOUSES in 3 months. Anyone with experience in this, kindly put your 2 cents in. I'm not sure if she has any recourse, but the whole thing seems, well... well past annoying. [I could go all conspiracy theory here but then I'd need to take it to the test board, lol] TIA

Either Michael Keaton or fraud would be my top two guesses.

The question is not WTH are they doing. You already know what they are doing. The question is who is doing it?

Are they bringing in a GC who then has a professional sub in each trade? I doubt it. They probably have a couple maintenance guys on staff that are doing the work. That unit probably is not even their top priority. They are doing it as fill in.

They a likely bringing in one subcontractor at a time, then inspect. Then another sub, and inspect that work. And on and on. It’s stupid.

We built a $1.6 million, 6399 sq ft house in Frisco TX in 87 days. Admittedly it was crazy at the end, but c’mon, three months is lazy.

Sadly, forced to concur. Lousy way to live (not like the 85+ gang is going out all that often). Thank for the comments.

Mark Dambly would do it for $500,000.

Oh, wait. It’s only a 1bdrm. That’ll run $250,000 if you use Dambly.

Geese on tv they do the whole house in 30 minutes. Lol. Seems like a job that could be done in 10 days less.

It depends on how much you do but 1-3 months sounds right. We renovated our first one bed in brooklyn in about a month. New floors and new kitchen.

Then we redid our next place which was a 2 bed and about 1100 sq feet and that took about three months. New floors, knocking down walls, new kitchen, new wiring, refinished walls, the whole thing.

That took about 3 months, but our building is a prewar NYC building. Which means solid plaster walls, horrible wiring and a horrible kitchen.

It depends on what type of facility you are speaking of. You would NOT believe the regulations, restrictions, hoops they have to jump through, etc. If it’s a state facility, EVERYTHING and I mean EVERYTHING has to get approved by the State. I think I remember the paint even had to be approved. Everything takes forever. It’s not the work per se, it’s the state requirements.
