Good morning Lion's Den.
I recently was on a trip to England, where I made it a point to sit down in the local pub and talk with people about local history and happenings, hear their stories, and get to know them a little bit. On my last night, I spoke with a gentleman who told me a great story. His grandmother had met an American pilot and they had a romance. When it was time for him to ship out, he promised to come back for her and left something very important to him as a token of his promise. The pilot did go back for her but her mother refused to let them get married, so he left again. But he left the token with her again. They both ended up getting married and having families, so that was the end of it except that she would speak of him from time to time, and her family knew the story about the thing that was left behind. I'm sure there was more to it, but that is the story.
She recently passed away and her grandson, my friend from the pub, has the thing that was left behind. He wanted to give it back to the pilot's family, which he thought lives right here in PA. I promised to help. Turns out the son of the pilot does live here in Eastern PA.
Does anyone here know of a Veteran's group or local reporter who might have experience in things like this? The son probably has no idea about any of this, and it's obviously a very sensitive and emotional thing. Not something you just drop on a guy. I'd appreciate any help or insight so that this can happen in a way that befits the story and the lives involved in it.
Thanks,
Greg
