Weekend Jukebox 2/8/19-2/10/19

My theme for this weekend.....American bands and artists....all kinds. Even country (except I don't know any). 'Cuz ya know....'Murica and stuff.

As always, you can choose your own theme.

My first video is something I stumbled across earlier this week....it's a reaction video of a young lady (millennial) to Johnny Cash's version of "Hurt"...

One of the pillars of the blues....

Great intro to this American Classic

An American troubadour

...and of course this guy....
you do need some country in this, so......(note there is a guy with PSU Wrestling in the video..)

pretty sure he is one of the husbands, that wrestled at Wilkes, while his Dad wrestled at PSU, best I can recall

I posted this link before but I don't care.
I love the song and whomever thought of synching it on this video is genius.
Plus it is Bob Fosse so the choreography is fantastic.
I love the wierd stuff they do with their hands and wrists and the guys with the cigarettes crack me up.:D

Since the theme this week is American music here is a song named American music (by a band from Wisconsin, America).

24 year old former Carlisle resident, Kyle Yorlets, shot dead yesterday in Nashville chasing his dreams. His band just released an EP and this video last month. RIP Kyle.

I only listened to that out of obligation based on the description but I liked that song. And then I googled the story and yeah, it's a story on the Nashville news and they play a bit of that song during the news story. Damn, that's awful.

ETA: For those that watch it, the guy singing (or actually lip syncing since it's a video) and featured most prominently is the guy that was killed.

I hadn't heard of the band until I read that PennLive story. That song is quite good. What a shame.

I like that a lot. That reminds me of a Ben Folds song named "Bitches Ain't Shit" that is much too dirty to post here but the idea is that it's a cover of a hip hop song (by Dr. Dre) with very foul lyrics but put to a pretty melody. But I think the Ben Folds song came after this one so maybe he copied the general idea.

I first heard Ben Folds version and I liked it a lot despite the lyrics but I assumed he didn't write it due to the lyrics then I looked up the original. Call me a curmudgeon but between the vile lyrics and the rhythm-less music I find it hard to imagine actually liking the original. But I like Ben Folds version, which makes the whole thing interesting.

ETA: It doesn't show it in the post so I'll say here that I'm respond to the Dynamite Hack song named "Boyz In The Hood," which is a cover.

Let me share some trivia about this and another song in this thread. John Denver co-wrote "Take Me Home Country Roads" with two other people. One of the others was Bill Danoff, who was in The Starland Vocal Band and who wrote "Afternoon Delight" earlier in this thread. And the other was his (then) wife Taffy Nivert, who was also in The Starland Vocal Band but who didn't write "Afternoon Delight."

And also, Hal Blaine played on some 70s John Denver songs and toured with him as well.
