Cael will have his weekly presser today at 11. Richie will be on that because I’ve picked up the stomach bug that went through the team. I now apologize to Barraclough because man this thing stinks.

Gonna try to find out more about the lineup for next week as well as whether Facundo will be headed to more opens anytime soon.

Orrrrrr not, Richie tells me they pulled a switcheroo and now we’re getting Casey instead.

RE: Richie’s question about Facundo. He will wrestle at the Southern Scuffle but as of now the plan is for him to redshirt.

I'm not saying Clay is out for the season, but I'm also not not saying it.

This goes without saying but I think Cael and Casey is weighing Alex's development vs any points he can possibly pick up at NCAAs. 165 is so deep and sending Alex for him to go 2-2 and R16 isn't worth it tbh. Kid's future is very bright.

A win over Wittlake or Griffith would do it 🤷‍♂️
I think we’ve been down this road before. I think what you have mentioned is a pretty high bar to pass right now and that there is a middle ground that could also show Facundo is progressing and capable of a higher ceiling at NCAAs than Edsell. I guess we’ll see.

Tbh, I fully expect Alex will be close to those guys score wise. His defense + ability to ride will allow him to. I don't think wrestling Griffith to a 3-2 loss will be that convincing if he isn't close to getting to Shane's legs even.

On the other hand, losing by one point to a defending national champion in December would certainly not be a bad showing and could hint at potential to score points for the team at NCAAs.

If you think about it, Matt Lee has the best win out of our 165s right now with that 8-5 win over Julian Ramirez at Binghamton.

A higher ceiling than Edsell isn't worth pulling his redshirt. The staff needs to be convinced he has a decent chance to get placement points.

My argument would be that the team race is gonna be extremely tight, with a razor thin margin between the contenders. I think if the coaches think Facundo will score even 1 more point than Edsell at NCAAs, then you gotta pull the shirt. My two cents.

Are you saying we need 8 scoring wrestlers, just in a different way?

165 right now:
Wick
Griffith
O'Toole
Marinelli
Wittlake
Wentzel
Valencia
Hartman
Amine
Romero
Kharchla
Ramirez
Hamiti

I think Hamiti might be a good comparison for Alex right now if anything. They were pretty close in free last year. Hamiti couldn't take Alex down at all (despite getting in on a few good shots)

What is important is can he get the 8th seed?
