Average
Week 7 of the Average. A reminder that a wrestler must appear in half of the rankings to appear in the Average. Morelli appears in 6 of the 9, so he's in the Average at 174. Rasheed appears in 2 of the 9, so he's not in at 174. Also, as the computer generated rankings often are more inaccurate (or whatever you'd like to call it) at the beginning of the season, I'll indicate the Average without and with the computer generated rankings. The two averages are not all that different at this point.
Without Computer Generated Included
125: Suriano - 3rd (3rd)
133: Cortez - 15th (16th)

Given the composite rankings across the board, I think the probabilities suggest that we will have all 10 weight classes participating at Nationals either via B1G Tournament or an at-large selection as long as Cortez makes it back on the mat with enough time to get back to form prior to B1Gs....

Don't anyone tell 21 Guns of the jump the Pokes received on Intermat's tournament rankings this latest week.

Those numbers do show that Penn State may be in a dog fight at NCAAs this year. Cowboys have a strong team; that's undeniable at this point.

Pokes have no where to go but down.

And even though they beat Iowa Sunday, not many of their guys lit the world on fire.

For instance, Collica might be the most underwhelming #2 ranked wrestler in recent history.

Knowing how deep 184 is, Boyd is a candidate of getting shut out of AA this year.

March will be interesting.

The Pokes are going to generate a good number of AAs, there is no doubt about that. Still say they're at a significant disadvantage in "bonus scoring" relative to PSU as you go down the list of likely AAs - for instance, PSU's list of likely leading scorers including bonus would be something like - Nolf, Retherford, Nickal, Nevills and Joseph. Those five alone will probably put PSU somewhere in the 110ish range, no? Then you have Suriano and probably one more from the other 4 weights imho. PSU will likely score somewhere in the 130 range and on the high side, I don't see Okie State eclipsing 120.

Okie State certainly will pose a challenge at Nationals because they could get a high number of AAs. But we could have as many as what, 4 or 5 finalists? Zain, Nolf, Nickal seem like good bets to at least get to the final, and Suriano and Nevills seem like they'll have a shot as well (though Nevills still needs to face Medberry and Stoll). We also have Cenzo who should be a solid AA, and a few guys like Cutch, Morelli/Rasheed who could also AA.

Gotta love the AWP rankings ... Garrett Hammond, who suffered a season-ending injury at the very start of the season, is ranked only five spots behind Vincenzo Joseph, who is ranked behind Chad Walsh and Nick Wanzek.

And they have a Penn State wrestler ranked 10th at 174. Unfortunately, it's Casey Kent, who is not actually a Penn Stater. Seems like they should be able to find a spot in the top 20 for actual Penn State wrestler Geno Morelli (probably somewhere above where they rank Phil Bukuckas and Micah Barnes, both of whom have lost to Morelli).

I agree. Its very strange. Hammond was wrestling 157 anyway. They have Jim Wilson ( at 6) (who Morelli beat) who is wrestling 174, Jake Faust (9), who has been out most of the year, just came back and lost to an unranked guy, Moore who has been out since Nov at 10, etc. Even Minotti is ranked above him who has been in and out with injuries this year, and has lost to multiple unranked guys. Strange because there are comments below about the weight that makes it look like it was thought out.

His comment under his 149 rankings made me wonder if he and I were watching the same dual on Sunday: "Collica (OSU) finally gets over the hump and defeats Sorenson (IA) 4-3 in the 15 overtimes. A very exciting bout!"

everything is in (and has been posted by me) except for TOM's team rankings. I don't generate the Average ranking until all of the data has been posted on the respective sites, so they will have to wait until TOM posts their team rankings later this week.

Cortez out again this week for Iowa.

Just curious, list who you believe will be Okie State's top individual scorers at NCAAs in order of tournament points scored including bonus. Personally, I just don't see how they get anywhere close to 130 with guys like Heil, Collica and Brock being their biggest point threats at NCAAs.... Okie State needs to do it with numbers and they would need to have 10 AAs to get anywhere close to 130 imho.

I defer to Intermat. Those numbers are based off their rankings that I think are pretty good. Don't think they factor in bonus so I don't view OSU as really being ahead by 12 points but I do consider them as much a contender as PSU at this point.

We'll just have to see how things evolve over the coming weeks, but PSU could have as many as 4 or 5 finalists at 125, 149, 157, 165, 184 and HWT (i.e., some of this depends on where these wrestlers get seeded which we won't know until after the B1G season and tourney - if PSU draws a 4-Seed at 125, 165 or HWT due to losses in upcoming duals or at B1Gs, it will likely torpedo their path to the Finals, but if these weights were able to ultimately get a 2 or 3 seed, PSU could wind up in the finals at all of these weight classes). PSU will probably generate some scoring and 1 or 2 AAs from 133, 141, 174 and 197. Again, I just don't see Okie State being able to keep up with this firepower from the top individual point scorers at PSU, but maybe that's just me.

Don't forget.... "it is why we wrestle the matches".... numbers are only good for seeds

Fully updated, and the Average generated. Not a lot of change in the rankings, or in the Average.

Next week, I expect a lot of changes in the 133 rankings, which may also impact the team rankings.

. He beat Morelli in a wrestle-off this week (a 3-2 squeaker is one score I've heard) and is likely to weigh-in at Carver tomorrow night. Just. In. Case.

key word is 'could'... again .... we all know your thoughts and opinions on this matter

"We" does not represent the entire board. Once again, multiple posters feel the same way, and the poll was over 40%.

Pretty sure the entire board knows your opinion on the matter.

Not that it's related to knowing your opinion, but what percentage of "the poll" voting for the shirt to come off consisted of fans from other teams?
