Weight change- Realbuto going down

My opinion is that weight cutting at this stage of his career is rarely successful vis-a-vis his past accomplishments.

He was too small for 174. Really showed against Nickal. Injury probably preventing him from lifting as much as he'd like. This is a good move

Had heard that a few weeks ago, but was like nah. I stand corrected.

Redblades, what says you?

Not basing this on any inside info here, just my own sideline observations, but - I thought the jump up to 174 last year was a bit much, remember he was at 157 his sophomore year. I think they made the leap anyway because (a) there was a perception that 174 was opening up a lot and (b) Koll & Co. thought they had a stronger team with Duke Pickett going 165, and Realbuto up a weight. Pickett is graduated, and Realbuto going back to 165 shouldn't be a huge cut - and especially if Brian can't hit the weights hard for a while. So it seems like a pretty rational move, but a lot will depend on how healthy Brian can come back.

165 gonna be a lot of fun next year. Somebody good will miss the podium, maybe multiple guys.

174 might be the easiest weight class again this year. And I mean easy compared to the other weight classes.

So that is 3 starters that spent full years at higher weights? Realbuto, Grey, Palacio?

Palacio wouldn't have wrestled at a higher weight last year. He wrestled at 157, down from his 165 the previous year. Now, Garrett moved up a weight to 133 (and he needed to!), and it worked out pretty well!

I would take this announcement re: Realbuto with a large grain of salt.

Having an agreed-upon plan with the wrestler and speculating about how big he'll be come Nov/Dec are two very different things. Even Koll's words indicated he was doing the latter.

Thanks for confirming Palacio wrestled at a higher weight.
