Let my dog out last night before bed. I was really beat, couldn't wait to get to bed. We just recently moved to a new house on some acreage and my dog has been chasing other dogs off our property a few times the past couple weeks.
So I was annoyed by not surprised when he tore off barking towards the woods when I let him out. I called him and he started coming back, but as he got closer I could hear him breathing through his nose, and then saw the foam hanging from his mouth. And then the smell hit. This skunk just nailed him right in the mouth. So after 3 hours of running to the store, buying hydrogen peroxide, baking soda, lemon juice, vinegar, tomato sauce, shampoo, etc and then lathering him and rinsing repeatedly, I finally got to bed.
He's going to be spending some quality time in the garage for the next couple days. We had a german shepherd years ago that got into skunks regularly, but this was the worst one I've ever smelled.
Clear indicator that it's officially spring.
