Been a long time.....and might be a long time before it happens again.

Having to be the first off and playing by himself today.....in a tournament he's won multiple times.....had to be a tough lonely day.

To his credit, a 74 was pretty damn respectable......

I think that Tiger's past is haunting him and maybe his conscience is unconsciously attacking him. It is not uncommon for individuals suffering from guilt - conscious or unconscious - to punish themselves with poor and humiliating performances at that which is most important to them. And, he needs to get back with Butch Harmon.

Bingo. He needs to beg Harmon to come back.

There were definitely some bridges burnt with Harmon. It would be about how much $$$ Tiger is willing to pay and if Harmon wants to do it or not. That being said, even if Harmon agreed, I do not think Tiger can make it back. Tiger has some legit physical issues that he will never be the player he was. in his prime or even that close. There are obviously some significant mind/confidence issues in Tiger's game now also, not sure if that can be figured out either as I think a lot of that has to do with Tiger no longer on PED's and having that confidence levels that taking PED's brings. Then throw into the mix that the quality of golf being played today is light years ahead of when Tiger was lapping the field. In Tiger's prime he was competing against country club golfers like David Love who didn't know what a weight room was, a drunken John Daly, David Duval who went belly up, Phil Mickelson when he had man boobs. Today's golfers like Rory and Speith, etc...modeled their game off of Tiger and the need to hit the weight room, practice a ton, etc...and are just way, way better than what Tiger faced.

I have to agree he has physical issues. I can understand a bit of the mental stuff, but NOT to this extent. Go from the best golfer ever to being an OK golfer (at the pro level)???

You guys want to dance around it but the real reason is the PGA is testing and Dr. Gilea is out of business.

All good points. If Harmon and Woods were to reconnect and get his game back to championship form, that is the stuff of legend. Harmon's coaching would be forever revered.

HOWEVER... as someone earlier in this thread mentioned, there have to be some unresolved psychological/emotional issues at work under the surface. This could be as much about integrity and character as it is physical injury. I don't recall which came first, the injuries or the revelation that Woods was a serial philanderer, but I think the one followed closely after the other? Were these the first real failures Tiger has had to overcome? I know he lost his father but that was not an internal issue of character. Overcoming injury is. As is personal moral failure. Yes he had great success while cheating on his wife, but a man has the ability to live in denial when his sins are secret - when it blows up and everyone with a moral compass is leveling judgment, that is something else. How a man responds to failures and setbacks of that magnitude determines whether he can rise again and be truly healed (physically and otherwise). And if reports are accurate as to why he and Vonn split, well maybe he's just not out of the woods yet ( bad pun alert).
But what do I know, I'm in IT not psychology.

While dancing around Dr. Gilea don't forget to waltz around the fact that Tiger got caught cheating on at least 3 occasions last year, on the course. He then walked off at least 3 times while only limping and wincing after the bad shots. On one occasion it was a bad back and then he jumped into the driver's seat of his SUV, twisted around 180 degrees to look while backing out and had a smile on his face. Morally bankrupt.

I did not realize he had back issues. That can be a career ender. I know quite a few Orthopedic Doctors including the former Philadelphia Eagles team doctor. Depending on the "type" of problem there may be no solution. Not surprising, back injuries are much like "skin" issues (see" Dermatologist) - no fix just keep trying different things to help. But, at he level he needs to play at the back can end that "expectation". In short, his best now may be middle of the road pro level.
