Maybe I'm getting ahead of myself, but it seems very probable to me at this point that whomever the DNC runs against President Trump in 2020 will likely lose in a crushing defeat.
Unlike Barrack Obama in 2008--who was presented as a moderate & a tax cutter--any Democrat nominee is going to have the same problem(s) that plagued the campaigns of George McGovern, Walter Mondale, Michael Dukakis, John Kerry etc. I think the left is kidding itself right now, of course they also thought Trump would be removed from office at this point.
I'm curious what happens if/when Trump wins a robust re-election and the GOP retakes control of Congress in November of next year.... does the Democrat party take a hard look at what it's doing or just double-down on the radical stuff?
