We have a stable full of Monday morning QBs here on BWI. My question is: What kind of performance by the chosen 197lber will it take for the fans to say that Cael made the right choice?

I will be happy if he wrestles to his seed.

I would have also been happy if either Cutch or Cassar wrestled to their seeds.

The good news is you won't ever have factual information to say he made the wrong choice.

The coaches choice came down to this: We believe both occupy the same spot on the podium, +/- 1, and no way to tell which is which. So....Rasheed scores more. 'Right choice" made.

NCAAs, I would hope to think Rasheed could place 5th to 8th and find a first round WBF along the way.

If the bracket breaks right, he easily could be wrestling on Friday evening. Anything can happen then, with his firepower.

To me that would be his floor. I think his ceiling is 1st. Who can't he beat in this field?

That’s why I said if the brackets break right.

To be honest, I think he would be an underdog vs Haught, already lost to Darmstadt. Possibly a slight underdog to Miklus.

I think he’s at least a coin flip chance or a favorite vs everyone else.

It would be sweet if he gets a Quentin Wright-type run going.

Wrestling to seed is a good starting point, but it could be argued that had he wrestled more matches, his seed should have been higher.

I would say AA with 2 bonus point wins. 3 if I am being greedy.

With the caveat that only the coaching staff has enough info to make the decision, the decision can really only be evaluated from the point in time it was made and what information was available then. And however Rasheed performs--under or over seed--we will never know how Cassar would've performed. So unless someone can point to an argument they made before B1Gs starts with concrete reasons why Cassar would outperform Rasheed, and then that scenario more or less plays out as predicted, any similar argument made after the fact will be meaningless 20/20 hindsight.

I think AA is table stakes. We will all wonder if the "other guy" could have AA'd. My expectations are higher. I want to see either in the semis and assuming Rasheed I will be disappointed if he doesn't put up 5 bonus points before his tourney is done.

Same as I hope for all the wrestlers. To me, it's not about wrestling to a seed, it's about wrestling to your potential.

Wrestling to potential, given the training, the improvement throughout the season, their effort, etc., and "beating seed" takes care of itself.

Seeding is a "body-of-work" determination, and represents an entire season of matches. Wrestling to potential at NCAA's, stated another way, includes all the gains made throughout the season, in fitness, in technique, etc., and has a moment-in-time component, with that moment-in-time being the post season.

Everything these guys have done up to now; the hard practices, managing weight, the improvement gleaned from both winning and losing bouts, etc., prepare the guys for those moments in March.

Everything is relative and we are talking Penn State wrestling fans.

If 197 gets to the finals and wrestles one of the most entertaining, back and forth, nail biting emotionally roller coaster finals in the history of NCAA wrestling, but loses a heartbreaker and Penn State finishes 2nd in the team race by 3.5 or fewer points some fans will be beside themselves and full of indignation. How could Cael have been so wrong - the other guy would have won that match.

If Penn State wins the team title with very little stress, it will all be good. No matter how well 197 does, everybody will recognize he did his best.

In case anybody is wondering either one IMO will be wrestling Saturday night and if they aren't oh well, as a fan I will be damn proud of their freaking effort pretty much no matter what.

The right choice was made awhile ago. Both SR and AC decided to come to PSU. They both battled issues not of their making and stuck to their work.

We started the year with one guy who most folks thought would AA. Now we have three.....if Cutch was healthy and we know that isn’t the case.

One guy has two of the most important match wins of the season.......one of which is an all-timer. The other guy gets to go to BT and beyond.

This Sanderson guy might know what he is doing
