What NFL players are HOF if they retired now?

Add Adrian Peterson. Add Larry Fitzgerald. And probably add Jason Witten

Subtract JJ Watt. He's not there yet. He's basically had 5 good seasons out of 9.

Already retired but 1 yr Joe Thomas
Malcolm Jenkins
Frank Gore
Jason Peters

Watt is a 3X defensive player of the year. He’d be a first ballot if he retired now

He's not even in the top 40 in career sacks. He's got as many sacks as Chandler Jones in only 6 less games, but Jones isn't a HOFer right now.

Watt needs another good season then he'll be a lock.

2 players have won Defensive POY 3 times:
LT & Watt

1 player has multiple 20 sack seasons:
Watt

5x 1st team all pro

IMO he’s in right now as they will factor in injuries ala Gale Sayers or Sandy Koufax in MLB

and Jones is certainly on his way.

True. This isn’t baseball where the ticket to the Hall is compiling stats over a long time. The Football Hall of Fame is more about dominance, even if for only a short time. Watt is definitely a Hall of Famer. He’s probably the best defensive player the NFL has had since Reggie White.

Look at Kenny Easley, Terrell Davis, Dwight Stephenson, etc.

+1

Luke Kuechly
Patrick Peterson
Kam Chancellor
Richard Sherman

might not be locks, but might make it simply because no one else is better on the nomination list some years.
