12 noon start on a crisp fall day with a clear blue sky the entire day.
White out night game.

Leaving 3:30 out. Starts to get dark.

12noon starts are reminisent of old PSU football, the glory days.
White outs. New generation.

Me at 55 now still live in the past.

I prefer Nooner and hoping last game is a noon for 2 reasons. Thanksgiving break, weather in SC is mighty cold,

Good question. I've never actually experienced a white out in person...been to a few night games prior to the phenomenon, and very much enjoyed the atmosphere (a little more rowdy since many of the attendees had the entire morning/afternoon to fill their tanks at several tailgates.

Noon is a wonderful time of day in the fall in Happy Valley...have to be a little more dedicated to get tailgating early, but the weather is more than worth it.

Hate to stay on the fence on this one, but I call it a draw. Flip a coin for the winner.

I prefer the one you left out 3:30, don't have to wake up in the wee hours of the morning to get up to State College in time to tailgate, or do much else other then literally park and make a dash for the stadium.

And the game is over by around 7:00 so not getting home ungodly late.

Why are you leaving 3:30 out? That would be my 1st choice.

I like 1 night game a year and before Nov. We got lucky with the weather on Sat. night.
I wouldn't want to rely on it always being that nice.

I don't have a problem with the noon kicks and actually kind of like them.
Gives me a chance to get downtown, eat wonder around and still get back
to where I'm staying in time to see other games.

I liked the 6:00 kick when we played ND. Thought that was just about perfect for a night game.

Much prefer the 3:30 start. Time to tailgate and you don't get home at an ungodly hour. Whiteouts and night games are fun atmospheres but by about 4:00, I'm ready for the game to start.

Sparty game will most likely be a 3:30 start since it's the same day as Michigan-OSU and that one is always a noon start and the conference will want all eyes on that one.

3:30 is my preferred game time. Home or away.
For home games, I +1 the 3:30 opinions above.

For road games, a 3.30 start allows me to get a good chunk of stuff done around the house before I check out for the day.

I only live 10 miles from the stadium, so I love the night games. Nothing like a game under the lights.

Set it up - - - and F the TV guys!

Wouldn't that be nice :)

Can get dark in the 2nd half.

Simple start all PSU versus EST opponents at noon.
Now for Central/Mountain Time games start at 3:30
For West Coast games start at 3:30 or later is fine.

I agree that 3:30 is ideal. Noon is too early. I like the whiteout atmosphere of a night game but the weather is very risky late in the season (yes, we got lucky Saturday). Another factor going against the night game is some in my group have trouble pacing themselves and run out of steam, so to speak, by the time the game rolls around.

I would like to see a Midnight kickoff (really). I know all the reasons it's a bad idea, but a "Midnight Madness" game would be talked about forever.

3:30 for me, Noon games the teams dose not show up until the second half. Night games against highly ranked teams are the best though.

If I'm attending then I also prefer the noon game. It's easy for me to jump out of bed at 5am on game day and still get up there in time.

I don't really tailgate, so for me it's more about heading downtown afterwards, with a victory in hand, to watch the other 330 games at one of the sports bars.

If I planned to tailgate, it would be a 330 game time, but ideally in the warmer Sept weather. I'm personally not big on tailgates in colder weather and would rather spend the time in town.

YEP these post are inclusive to my thoughts. If the Iowa game was a 3:30 start, I would have been physically able to tolerate the longer day. Of course, I'm being somewhat selfish and taking the joy of night whiteouts which have been specular this year.

As a novelty not a bad idea.
But with all the noise and stuff that the game day atmosphere creates (and its not just around the stadium) think some residents would object.
Also not sure how this would pan out for businesses. Especially the bars which have to close at 2am. The standard 8pm game at least they have a few more hours.

I recall that the 2013 quad-OT thriller against Michigan kicked off at 5 p.m. That seemed to be a nice alternative to the 7/8 p.m. kickoff... can get into town later for the game, but aren't leaving town at midnight.

1pm pre big ten time slot were great...

6pm we have had a few including ND in 2007... night feel but that 2 hrs prevents the day from dragging

3:30 leave the stadium in the dark. love it

Noon games suck. a ton of effort to see a crappy team most likely

A noon start will really cut down on the attendance on the projected Friday games! ;)

My 5 + hour drive leans towards 3:30 as I concur with previous posters. I do want to bring my son to the next White Out. Guessing UM in '17.

Some of the residents might gripe, but someone always gripes about change. I think the bars would come out about the same. People would have an extra 4 hours before the game, and restaurants would probably do better. Hotels should be full because people would not want to drive home at 4 in the morning. I know it's not unique in that it's done for basketball, but to do it for a football game with 100K would be a once in a lifetime event. I know it won't happen here, but I'd bet it will happen somewhere in the next 10 years unless there is some NCAA reason it can't be done.

Art,
You out there to bring up NCAA reasons on why a football mid night madness may not be able to get played?

Sounds like your group needs more night games to practice.. I love the night games. Of course, weather could play a factor. It can be a total downpour in September too or incredibly hot. Those aren't really ideal either. Night games allow you to take your time in the morning getting to State College. Traffic is spread out so you can cruise right in. Afternoon can be spent outside at your tailgate and you can spread out your grilling all afternoon. Evening rolls around and it's time to get packed up and into the game. It's absolutely beautiful inside the stadium for a night game. The place is louder and the players are young guys that are more ready to go when night rolls around. I love being at sporting events because of the energy they bring. Night games at the Beav are absolutely electric.

SIAP, but I read in the SF Chronicle a few days ago (November 6, to be precise) that the Big Ten announced it will play six (6) Friday night games per season, starting in 2017 and continuing through 2022.

The Friday night games are being added to the B1G's television agreements with ESPN/ABC and Fox, according to B1G senior associate commissioner Mark Rudner.

There are a couple of caveats, however. First, Penn State announced that it won't play any Friday night HOME games. Second, Jim Delaney told the Chicago Tribune that Michigan "said no" to playing either home or away on Friday night.

Usually, the TV money ends up deciding things. If the TV networks want a game on Thursday or Friday night, they usually get their way. The Pac has been doing this for the past couple of seasons. Frankly, I loathe these games (give me Saturday afternoon every time), but money talks.

But the carve outs that the B1G have apparently made for PSU and Michigan are surprising to me. Aren't these decisions normally made by the Conference as a whole, and aren't all conference members obligated to accede to the will of the majority? Shouldn't they be? I say that, but I also understand that, given State College's location, weekday night games make it tough for fans who live in Pittsburgh or Philly to attend.

I am going to be selfish and ignore the very legitimate issues that others have.

Full schedule of night games would be nirvana for me. The only downside is the specialness and big-time feel of playing under the lights might get lost.

Second choice - 3:30. Lots of time in the parking lot before and after.

Last choice - Noon. I hate noon games. The team isn't the only one that needs time to get going in the AM.

I vote for 3:30 PM with a couple 8:00 pm games. If you want the program to be elite, you have to deal with elite start times.

Why allow the networks to dictate the 12:00, 3:30, 8:00 paradigm? College football should start at 1:30 PM local time which allows for cocktail hour, a good meal and dessert (cocktails?) prior to kickoff. Leave the stadium at 4:30 and reheat the leftovers and grab a quick "road pop" (or coffee) for the ride home. PERFECT!!
