We have all considered what would I have done if confronted with a situation similar to the one Mike M. faced in the shower. I was confronted with a situation about 5 months ago. A son had gotten out of the back of a four door pick up truck. I was seated in my car waiting to get out. The father got out of the truck and bitch slapped his son up long side of his head. I got out of my car and the father proceeded to leave. The son said something smart to the father as he was leaving. I walked into the coffee shop closely behind the son. The father slammed the truck into park and ran into the store after the son yelling " I am going to kick your ass, I am going to kill you little bastard". I turned around and did a two handed punch like an offensive lineman to his shoulder area and prevented him from attacking his son. The kid was 5'4" and about 80 lbs. The dad was much larger. Luckily I am 6'3" 225lbs. I remember saying to the Dad "not today, not on my watch, we don't attack children". He left the shop and spun his tires. I then went to court and talked to about 20 police officers and filed a report. The store was crowded and not one person moved a muscle to get involved. The staff gave me a standing ovation and a free coffee.
I tell you this not to blow my own horn but to offer some insight as to what we are capable of when we are confronted with this type of situation. I now know what I would do!
