Jonesing for details. This will be the first White Out I've ever missed. What's the feel in town and around the lots?

The renovated Tavern is PACKED. VERY NICE TO SEE! We are…

Has the food improved?
We haven't gone there yet, but have heard mixed reviews. Very different menu. Looks like they're trying to upscale it a notch. A little more expensive. I don't remember that the old Tavern had the "Wagyu thing" going. Some of those people who went there for unlimited free side dishes are going to be bummed.

The unlimited sides coupled with mediocre entrees basically represented State College's first Cracker Barrel.

Wife and I remember, and chuckle at, the pre-game night we actually made a reservation, nattily clad of course, and requested a window view. They must have mistakenly thought we were important because they seated us next to the large window that people strolling along College Ave were able to look into. Everything was fine until they seated a party of six (6) at the large table in the middle of the room.....Fowler, Herbstreit, Corso, and three other forgettable ESPN people. It only took 30 minutes before some drunk students peered into the window and started to yell/signal some rather unrefined statements.

We asked for the check and departed.

Soup de Jour?!?! Brussel Sprouts?!?! Veal Picatta?!?! Osso Bucco?!?! I realize it’s Pirates territory, but I hope they can cook better than they spell.

That is funny. Someone should notify the OSIA and the Alliance Française about these cultural transgressions. Maybe the Belgian Embassy too. I don't know the organization that reps them in the states. Google to the rescue. Looks like there is the Belgian-American Association.

Not like the old days with a number. Friend went tonight waited an hour and then when close they said another 2 hours. He left.

downtown is packed was pretty great to see today all students in stores buying whiteout shirts . Funny part was that no students were wearing masks inside these stores but most alumni were.

Town is ridiculous. All parking garages full. Just got back from tavern after an almost three wait to be seated. I really want to like the new Tavern, but not so sure. Food was ok, menu limited, bar was packed and very understaffed. No toll house pie. Prime ri b sauce is mot the same. Just not the same feel as before.

Was downtown early this afternoon. At 530 the town was crowded. I was at Local Whiskey snd it was full. No one wearing masks. No one enforcing the mandate. We walked past Champs and there was a bit of a line. Pickles had a line. By 8pm everything was as packed as it could be. Met a bunch of Auburn folks and they were super nice and had glowing reviews of the town.

i don’t know what downtown was like later at night but I suspect it is nuts! Good to see lots of people on the street and all of the businesses full. If we win tomorrow night it is going to be a great scene!

Changed my mind and decided to stop on State College to see the Auburn game on my way back to FL. Yesterday afternoon the line waiting at the old skellar was backed up one block at 3:00. At 77 years old, I didn't stay for dinner but went to Altoona for supper and the evening in my room.
My last white out was 2005, my last game with my dad.

You can never go back. I am just finishing a 2 week vagabond vacation visiting places in New England I liked 50 years ago. Some are still good but nothing is the same.

$55 for a ribeye? Yeah, no...

Yes and they are going all in but they have mega bucks behind them even though ops and mgmt may not be the best. We will see how they adjust. Tavern upstairs room I heard is when owner is in town only. We have tried to go upstairs to deck twice now and no go.

I go to Capital Grill maybe every other month and know what good steaks cost. But those are business dinners, and one way or another, I'm not payin'.

$55 steaks in central PA? Good luck w/ that.
You're preaching to the choir. I'm not payin' it either. I do wonder what the weekly business, non-football weekend and without other special events, will be like for The Tavern. Does our local population have the clientele willing to pay the new prices?
