Four years ago, right? What's his winning streak up to now? 90 wins? Not trying to get you fellas all lathered up but has a number one ever beaten a number two seven times in a row? If Retherford wins he's in rarified air: three consecutive titles, 90-some consecutive wins, two Hodge trophies...

He lost at worlds less than a year ago, by putting a leg in of all things. I know you meant college.

Tell you what, a BS final scares me a bit. Sorenson will try and employ the same staIling tactics in the first period like he did at big tens. Brandon took zero shots and just was defensive, Zain took a few shot attempts but Sorenson sprawled. He just wanted to go scoreless in the first period. Third period he pressured forward but again took no real shots on Zain. In fact Zain was the only one who got to BS legs but did not finish and bailed out. It was a boring match, and yes Zain did squat himself the third period besides one shot. But I think Brandon may have gained some confidence in that match. I am hoping someone knocks him off before the finals.

not confidence , just some hope. We all know hope is not a method!

I have watched Zain in pure amazement as he just always gets the job done. Brandon Sorensen is a terrific wrestler and even better young man. I think the two have one last battle Saturday night and Zain probably wins a 5-2 type match. Brandon would be very high on the All time Hawkeye wrestling lists if Zain wasn't always in his path. Brandon isn't the most wide open offensive wrestler, but he is solid in every position and always represents our state with pure class and dignity. I am very proud to be one of his fans. I can't imagine trying to prepare for Zain's relentless pressure. Brandon has been Zain's most worthy adversary and is simply trying to give himself the best chance to win.

I see Brandon with some close calls along the way and I would not be shocked if he lost. To many guys are able to keep it to a 2-3 point mtach with him.

if the ref doesn't make him wrestle, you could very easily be right.

A little hope goes a long way, though.

Given that Zain found a way to win even when he had the flu (closest match against Sorensen), I like his chances of staying perfect in their series. Especially given that this will be Zain's final match on the biggest stage in college wrestling.

This scares me too.
Plus there is usually some match that provides some extra "human interest" drama. Zain being denied his last title by a kid finally beating him sets up that way.
You know how those gods on Olympus like to screw with us.
Penn State Pessimism at its finest.

BTW, Sorensen was not #2 when Zain beat him in the semis last year.

Actually we knew that Sorenson was not #2 right then but he has pretty much always been considered Zain's top opponent for these years.
Is it true optimists have more fun..or is that only blonde optimists?

I'm not at all concerned about how many wins in a row Zain has... I'm due to beat my son at tennis too, and that won't be happening. Zain is skilled and smart enough to beat Sorensen in perpetuity. What I do find interesting and riskier is what happens if BS holds up his end and gets to the final, and Zain needs to beat him with a pin. There is no doubt Zain would risk personal glory for team achievement and may be forced into some desperation-type action.

If (big if) Zain ends up running the table in a similar fashion to last year, will he go down as the most dominant 149#er in NCAA history? I don't know of anybody who accomplished more at the weight but I'm sure the board historians have some other names deserving mention.

I’d probably give that honor to the unparalleled Lance Palmer

I had DVR'd the B1G finals and just re-watched that a few days ago. I looked like Sorenson was actually preferring to stay on bottom and was only actively working to prevent Zain from putting in a leg. It looked like he had several opportunities to come to his feet and DID not; I'm guessing because he knew Zain would then get a leg in -- and he's pretty good at getting you back to the mat after he's done that.
