When does team travel to CA?

The later the better, and make certain we don't get screwed on practice facilities like we did in 2008. Also, don't do all the BS events that the Rose Bowl always makes the visiting team do....keep legs fresh.

In 1994, the Rose Bowl committee put the PSU team in a hotel in Irvine -- about 50 miles from Pasadena (an hour and a half driving time in L.A.), where all the pregame events took place.

Maybe that's why the Pac-10 always does so well in the Rose Bowl -- they wear out the Big 10 team before the game even starts.

We're joking, but you are not far from the truth. Every year the Rose Bowl committee has the away team doing shit all day, every day. Visiting coaches have finally begun to pull back from doing everything they ask. Franklin is playing this one VERY smart in my opinion. Iowa went out there a few years back a full two weeks early and looked like they were running in sand when they got on the field.

20 minutes after the lots open.
Official "lot opening" is a rather dynamic concept in Pasadena. They certainly won't open on time and 20 minutes might even be a tad early. I'd aim for 45-60 minutes to ensure that you end up on the preferable west? side of the stadium.

You could take the fun out of a Roman orgy.
You've used that line before so it's not quite "old" but it's quickly becoming "stale". :)

In all seriousness, you don't want to arrive at the lots too early, else you'll be squeezed into a small triangular area east of the Rose Bowl......very unconducive to pre-game tailgating.

Your best bet is to drive around the stadium, park on a side street (north, residential?) and wait until they open the "golf course" lots (just as the sun is starting to rise). They generally wait until the last possible minute to open the golf course lots because they are generally covered in frost and driving over frosty grass immediately kills it (at least in Southern California).

Despite your instincts, it is possible to arrive at a party/orgy a "tad too early".

That is perhaps the best diagram I have ever seen at handling the "situation" at the Rose Bowl, and even THAT is difficult. The Rose Bowl is a freaking logistical parking nightmare, any way you slice it.

Yep

Not like the kids should have any fun. :)

Gotta make sure they "do what's necessary" for Guns to be able to get a woody while he polishes his Fifth Place trophy

They are staying at the JW Marriott at LA Live which is right near Staples Center. It's about 14 miles away from Rose Bowl. It's a 20-25 min drive depending on time of day.

That's near the downtown area of LA. Unless they're making the drive at 3am, it will be a challenge to drive up to Pasadena from downtown in 20 minutes. LA has some of the worst traffic I've ever experienced.

I would imagine they would have some sort of police escort to and from the game. Not sure if that works in LA, but in the rest of the civilized world, it clears traffic.

Once they get past the tunnel (from LA to Pasadena), traffic isn't bad. Driving from Pasadena to LA, traffic is not good once you get past the Dodgers exit to the 8th St exit. I had Clippers season tickets from 2011-16 and drove it many times and almost was go there (LA Live) in 30 mins or less and back to Pasadena in about 25 mins or less. Granted both drives were in the 7-10pm timeframe and not morning and evening rush hours--that is when it is excruciatingly slow.
