When will we see finalized plans for the Beaver Stadium?

I think an approved plan will help us take recruiting to the elite level.
Approved or paid for?

Approved: Sandy and CJF can show renderings tomorrow if they wanted to
Paid For: Sandy and CJF can show renderings to 1st grade recruits and hope for the best

While I agree that it is frustrating for fans to have no clear plan or timeline for stadium renovations I am not sure how big a deal this is from a recruiting standpoint. The white out always seems to impress. I would imagine players are more interest in amenities in Lasch than the Beav.

Once you get someone to donate a Pegula-sum of money to get it started.

If they keep to the announced time line, the recruits who will play in the revamped Beaver Stadium haven't been born yet. A more likely scenario, given progress thus far, is that their grandchildren might see it.

Seems you're unfamiliar with Sandy's track record for paying for things.

don't think so. PSU is already considered a Top 3 gameday experience in college football. there is no more upside to Beaver stadium from a player perspective. From a player perspective, PSU is behind the 'elite' facilities with respect to the football building and player amenities in said building.

not anytime soon, unless you, or someone else, decides to donate multiple millions to PSU.

the designs that were shown of a refurbished Beaver Stadium, at the end of the total review of athletic facilities, may bear little resemblance to what actually is done. How much $$ is donated, and what is viable and feasible when the actual project takes place -- something that is unlikely to start in the next five years -- will dictate what actually is constructed.

as to your statement about the effects on recruiting, I think there is very little correlation between PSU football recruiting and the finalized plans, or the actual completion of the project, for Beaver Stadium. The players don't spend a lot of time at Beaver Stadium -- the home games, the Blue-White game, and a select number of practices. The field is not going to be modified. Perhaps the home locker room will be upgraded, but that's not a big deal to recruits. The changes will primarily be to the press box, to the bathrooms, to the concession stands, to the infrastructure, and possibly to the outer appearance of the stadium -- things that have almost no relevance to recruits.

Most recruits are amazed by games at PSU. They love the size of the stadium, they love watching the players walking up to the stadium and the fan support, they love the way the students are into the game, they enjoy the recruit's lounge, they love going out on the field before the game, etc.

If PSU continues to win most of their games, is in contention for or plays in the CFB playoffs, and CJF continues his high-energy approach to recruiting (which you can pretty much guarantee he will continue), PSU will continue recruiting at an elite level (it already is).

The Lasch Building just went through a $14.5 million renovation. The first phase included the installation of a nutrition bar and renovations to the facility's auditorium, meeting rooms and lobby. The second phase of the project expanded and reconfigured Lasch’s locker and shower areas and provided a new hydrotherapy room. Renovations were also made to the equipment room, fitting rooms and loading dock.

Total Lasch project is $25mm

Actually, the renovations to date were $25 million. The last thing completed were the position meeting rooms. They are awesome. I walked through them in August. There are additional plans to spend $35 million on the Lasch facility. That includes more money on technology, redoing the coaches offices and a build out of the terrace that overlooks the practice fields.

The money is ridiculous. What technology is missing?

Of note: Sandy did say on the Nitwits show that they have either reached or are very close to reaching the level needed to get started on renovating the players lounge. That should leave the second floor coaches offices as the only area still (more or less) original.

As far as Beaver Stadium goes, the more I think about it the more I think that the best move for the future is to finally do the long-overdue rebuild of the press box to add additional luxury boxes, the addition of chairbacks, and improvements to the various concourses, restrooms, and other fan amenities. I don’t see the need long-term for the massive changes for the large-scale renovations as laid out in the master plan.

Chairbacks will require a complete demolition of the stands. There's not enough room to fit the chairbacks into the rows. If you look at the chairbacks that are installed in sections WD/WE/WF/ED/EE/EF, there's about 5 rows of chairbacks where there used to be 8 rows of benches. This alone is a major reason for the large-scale renovations.

I propose never upgrading the press box- I think our treatment by the press entitles them to nothing- hell shut the water to the bathrooms off

Great.

Tell me where the money came from (or is supposed to come from ) if you can.

:)

From not doing the rest of the Master Plan.:)

Believe they announced mid-year that they had raised $25mil for the renovations to date. Came as a bit of a surprise since it was previously announced that the project was budgeted at $18mm. Guess the goal line keeps on moving. Gonna have to raise the budget for ballet slippers if this keeps up.

Thanks. Weren't Franklin's office and the terrace that extends from it redone recently?

Not to give away any confidential info, but there's a firm studying moving the stadium's location. "The move to a new locale...was proposed a year ago in the University's long range study, which was approved "in principle" by the the Board of Trustees, but the BOT has yet to appropriate funds for the undertaking."

I could be mistaken but the press box in the Beaver Field photo looks like what he have now with the exception of the additions which were added to both sides. Is the current central area of the press box the same structure which was used at Beaver Field?

I'm not sure, but it looks like the press box was built in '49 according to this article, so it's possible.

Thanks for playing along, Art. Are there any active fault lines on campus?

Believe there is one that starts to run under Old Main, but then, in a weird geological phenomenon, it takes a turn upward.

Too bad you couldn't have posted earlier in the day. The activity generated would have been priceless.
