Where do you think Cael will be tomorrow?

The recruiting window for home visits was moved from July to September 1st. Flo lists Trevor Mastrogiovanni as our top target which suprised me a little.

I'm all-in on Beau Bartlett. Given how we hit it out of the park with the 2018 class there are fewer gaps, it seems we are entering a period where Cael & Co might do some recruiting right on top of other blue chippers; Kirkvliet being one example. Beard has us covered at 197 post Bo, but I still can't let go of the thought of AJ Ferrari in blue and white, who I think might even be better.

We all know the story of Cael's 12:01 a.m. visit to Lord Voldemort's house, so he obviously takes the prospect of the first official visit very seriously.

Who does the collective think Cael will go see, there can only be one first visit, and we'll probably find out in the next few days?

Goggles is in for Bartlett.

Agree with most of your post, I do think a lot of guys sleeping on Beard because of a 1 point loss to Hoffman. Beard will be dynamite with lots of time to work with Cael and Casey in the best room in America . Not sure why Beard doesn’t get a touch more respect, anyone?

Excited to see him in a Penn State singlet soon enough. Until then...whatever.

I totally agree on Beard he's a stone cold killer he was the consensus number one by a wide margin until Hoffman tried to prove PSU made a mistake. Gavin was a man on a mission and eeked out a narrow victory. A common belief is Beard's ceiling higher than Hoffman's. It's really anyone's guess how Beard and Ferrari would compare you can't deny Ferrari is destroying all comers.

I will say under the new transfer rules we might see more over recruiting and with a red shirt year it's not going to hurt any wrestler to spend a year in PSU's room and then move on somewhere else if it doesn't work out.

I doubt Cael envisions Lorenzo as some training camp, he strikes me as a coach that’d like to have his guys stay put, more of a family atmosphere. I know I’d hate to see collegiate wrestling move in that direction , uggghhhh. Leave that to the Guys in Iowa City, accepting Grad Transfers is a bit different when we had glaring Holes left by some Jersey kid

One major constraint against: APR. NCAA holds Cael responsible for his wrestlers graduating even if they transfer away. That starts once they enroll -- includes redshirting true freshmen.

As long as Cruiseliner Nick is a one-off, that happens. Can't imagine Cael wants his team's eligibility for nationals dependent upon other coaches' avademic support structures.

I saw the WNO match from the first row. Both Hoffman and Beard were totally gassed in the second period, so I'm not putting much stock in the result.

By comparison does Pitt have the roach motel of rooms?

Pitt prefers "ho"-tels. Too soon? :D

I'm a little puzzled by Flo's pick, too. Teske, Teasdale, RBY, Busiello, Nick Lee and Verkleeren are all in the 125-149 range (presuming Berge moves up next year). They also seem to have Cornell getting superlogjammed in the lower weights.

Its already happening to some extent. I am not alluding to Cael opening up the program to a lot of transients. The observation is if you recruit two hammers, the one that proves better is good for Cael and the program but what of the other? Not every kid may stay loyal as long as Mason Manville, and at least for now he seems to be focused on Greco. If we land Kirkvliet do you really think he or Seth will sit around for 4-5 years? No way. They will take 1 year to see who is going to win the slot and the other will bolt and have half of the top programs in the country salivating at the chance to land either one.

I agree with both points in your post. I am a big fan of Beau and AJ. That being said I also like Beard a lot too.

I was there, front row. Had that been a typical 2-2-2 HS match, or better yet a 3-2-2 match, Beard most likely would have won. Hats off to Hoffman, he wrestled great, and won, but he's was shot at the end. Don't like his chances going forward against Beard, especially with the upper weight development of PSU kids.

Because Cael can.
This.
Plus, the HR meltdown. Parents don't pay more to send their where they want them to go. Camp money. Of course with Spencer doing numerous camps this summer and several with his Penn State friends, Camp money and vodka R investigators seem to have decided there is nothing there.

The longer answer is that PSU has zero needs for Class of 2020 -- with the possible exception of 174 if we don't land Starocci or Kharchla this year AND Cael doesn't see Manville holding the fort for two years after Hall graduates.

So Cael is shopping for a Ferrari (pun intended) while everyone else is at the Toyota and Ford dealerships.

Scott Goodale is at the used car lot. ;)

I think Mastrogiovanni would be a perfect fit at 149 once Nick Lee graduates. His brother could replace Berge.

Thought I read somewhere that Kharchla announced a top 5 list, and without PSU. Believe it was, in no particular order, tOSU, Minnesota, NC State, Virginia, and Okie State,

FloWrestler Of The Week: Trevor Mastrogiovanni, Blair
Dec 11, 2017 Ryan Holmes

Trevor Mastrogiovanni came into Ironman unranked and walked out with the title in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, on Saturday.

The Blair Academy (NJ) sophomore was an absolute terror in the tournament's 113-pound bracket. Mastrogiovanni gave up just six points, with five of them coming in his first bout of the tournament, which he won 11-5 over Tristan Lujan of Selma (CA). After that, Mastrogiovanni recorded a pair of shutouts in the semis and finals with an 11-1 major decision in the quarters.

In the semis he showed off from every position as he took down and turned multiple time Fargo champ Dylan Ragusin to get the 8-0 major. Mastrogiovanni kept rolling in the finals to claim the title with another shutout win over Cadet Greco world runner-up Cevion Severado, 7-0.

Trevor Mastrogiovanni’s dominant path to a title makes him our FloWrestler of the Week.
