The past usual places have been The Corner Room or the Nittany Lion Inn, but I haven't been up there in a number of years. Any suggestions?

Joe Pa's resting place. My wife Karen and I visit numerous times throughout the year. We were at the PIAA baseball championship game at Lubrano park and visited the site before the 5pm game. also the Nittany Inn is first class, you'll pay around $50 for choice grade steak.

Call me a JoeBot because I love the guy since the first time I met him at College Park, MD in the beginning of the 70's.

Is Spats still around? I had biz in State College about 5 years ago and took some clients there. Had a great meal that was well received by my guests.

I hear whatever Zola's is called these days is pretty good. Depending on what kind of client...Otto's, NLI, Gardens at the Penn Stater, Herwig's, Spats and Elk Creek Cafe (if you don't mind going out of town) are all good options.

Thank you CF Lion. I have never even given this restaurant a thought. I'm not a fan of Cajun, but my son, loves Cajun food. I'll mention this to him. During the season we can make reservations for late games. We are always looking for different eateries in the area. Also, when visiting my grandson in S.C. we'll take him to the place.

I've been to all the listed suggestions other than Kelly's Steak House and Carnegie House. The Kelly's name certainly tells it's specialty, but what about Carnegie?

I've always thought that the big cow out by Boalsburg or Bellfonte or one of those B towns ....was quite an attraction.

If your client insists on visiting State College, at least advise them that it's an incestuous whore-parlor.

Pool Boy, where is this parlor? Maybe I'll find my way and have one last fling before my wife spreads my filthy ashes at the end zone of the Beav.

Obviously none of you live here, Otto's is terrible. HVBC is far superior...beer AND food. The Creamery is bland beyond words, It can't touch Meyer's dairy. Also The Penn Stater brunch and weekend buffet is delicious and varied.

HVBC, and its sister Champs, aren't even close to Otto's. Both are wildly inconsistent.

I think the answer is "it depends". Is your client Rick Neuheisel? Then the Tavern is the only spot for you.

Otherwise, I've learned in the past 24 hours that apparently you can't get a nice meal in State College, and you will have to evidently take them to Pittsburgh to impress them.

There's a small, little known downtown bar and grill named Chumleys. Its somewhat unique, and would certainly leave an impression on your clients.

Seriously though, I'd recommend the MountNittany Inn, except it just burned down, or went out of business (can never keep those 2 quite straight).

Given that option is out, Duffys Tavern (Boalsburg) is a good choice, as is Kelly's Steak House.

Mamma Lucrezzios in Bellefonte is surprisingly good, and has a bit of that quaint Italian feel.

Everybody knows that the only place that anybody important goes to in State College is Lubert's basement.

The atmosphere at HVBC is awesome but service is inconsistent. I completely disagree about the Creamery vs Meyers dairy. The Creamery is so much better. There's no comparison IMO.

I haven't checked out Liberty yet, the new place next to the Inferno but it looks cool.

I'll also second Mama Lucrezia's in Bellefonte (Faccia Luna is also good in State College).

Order the Chicken Marsala or Chicken Marsala pizza at Mama Lucrezia's in Bellefonte--you won't be sorry.

You're off to an inauspicious start trashing the Creamery with your first post (no doubt reset via board amnesty).

mixed bag, food is good; not a large menu. more atmosphere/service than great food. check the menu online.

HVBC, and its sister Champs, aren't even close to Otto's. Both are wildly inconsistent.

As the board's resident craft brewery expert, I can say that neither are great from a beer perspective. Neither has standout food either, but HVBC does win in the atmosphere department.

Granted, either place is better than having no craft brewery in town. But neither is an impressive brewpub.

HVBC's atmosphere, particularly in the "basement", is awesome--that's tough to beat anywhere.

Similar to what pandaczar said, I don't think their food is anything to write home about. It's inconsistent, especially with service. I'd put Otto's food above HVBC, although it too can be all over the place.

Elk Creek has good beer and the menu is pretty eclectic--it just doesn't have much on it. The atmosphere there is also neat.

There's really not any outstanding restaurants in town. There are a few that are good, enjoyable, etc, but none that are spectacular.
Elk Creek is by far the better choice for both beer and food over Otto's and HVBC.
I didn't eat at Otto's for several years the food quality had gotten so bad. I went with others a few months back and the food was edible to not bad, but nothing special. Ottos's beer is O.K.
HVBC has a great ambiance, and an interesting menu, but the service and the food are both inconsistent. The beer is unremarkable.
Elk Creek has a real nice, local menu. It is somewhat limited, but the food is always good. Their beer is far better than Otto's or HVBC.
Creamery way better than Meyer Dairy. Not even close, though I know several people who feel differently.
While I enjoy the Tavern for its ambiance and history, it is the McDonald's of fine dining in State College. Allen Street Grill is overpriced and overrated. Kelly's was good, but I haven't been there in a while. Zola's just reopened under new management, and I have not been there yet. Duffy's is just a suburban version of the Tavern.
Pizza means Faccia Luna for me. Champs is a good sports bar. Ale House for their seafood bar is a good choice and a nice atmosphere. Spats is always good.

Some under the radar suggestions for you.
Red Horse Tavern in Pleasant Gap (worth the visit just to say you've been to Pleasant Gap).
Local Whiskey downtown for lunch.
Big Bowl Noodle House to relive you Ramon Noodle student days.
Legends Pub at the Penn Stater. Nice little menu that is usually well done.
Cozy Thai for Americanized Thai food.
Herwig's for Austrian food and a laugh (the staff is playful).
The Naked Egg for breakfast

The view from a window table at the Allen Street Grill on a nice day can't be beat.

But food-wise there really aren't any great restaurants in State College. Otto's and Herwig's both used to be great, but last I was there, you had to drive out to the Elk Creek Cafe in Millheim to get great food.
