Who are you rooting for today, Army or Navy?

I was always for Navy, until they won a scad of games in a row. Then I started rooting for Army. Now I'm back to Navy. Hoping for a great game with no injuries.

One of the great spectacles in American sports is the annual matchup, with the Cadets and Middies filing into a stadium in their dress coats.

I didn’t serve. But my Dad was very proud of his service as an Army medic in Korea, so I always root for Army. I appreciate the opportunity to watch this game more and more every year. Sorry I never made the effort to actually attend one.

I am retired Air Force and just sit back to enjoy this great American sports event. I honor their commitment to the service of our nation. Today they oppose each other; in their future they serve a common creed to defend our nation.

I had 2 Great Uncles on my dad’s side of the family. One served in the trenches in France during WWI. The other was a radioman in the Navy, in the South Pacific during WWII. One of my biggest regrets is not asking them about their service when they were still alive. I guess I was too young to really understand. I don’t really pick a side in the game, just hope for a close game that goes down to the last minute. May the best team win.

This is a wonderful game. I wish all sporting events could be this clean. No nonsense. Mutual respect. Discipline. Execute the play. Get up. Huddle. Go again.

Same with fans in the stadium. Disciplined.

Obviously not the pinnacle in football talent but this is what sports should be, especially when each team is representing a school.

If I was a college football coach I would make my players watch this game and tell them that this is the behavior that I expect to see.

The WW1 combat vet probably had some harrowing stories. Trench warfare was terribly challenging and dangerous with use of mustard gas and constant bombardment. Thousands were killed and thousands ended up with lifetime disabilities be it from gas attacks, wounds from rifles/machine guns/projectiles or "shell shock". Certainly wasn't "the war to end all wars". Generals sat comfortably in staff headquarters while men on both sides became cannon fodder.

Always Ike to watch the post game singing of the respective academy alma mater songs. True RESPECT. Gary Danielson was spot on when he said, "the ony flags these young men wll plant will be the flag of the United State of America"
One final thought: Those Navy uniforms and helmets were so very cool. Would really like to have one of those helmets.

Not to mention the munitions manufacturers....

Well said. I couldn't agree more.

My Dad was a Marine and so was I, so I guess technically I should pull for Navy, but honestly, I've never favored one over the other in this game.

I rarely applaud the television networks for anything, but I do credit them for maintaining the tradition of honoring this game in a special way to close the regular season of college football. The guys on both sides of that field stand for something more important than sports.

As it happened, I had a family event yesterday so missed the game. Tough way for Army to end a great regular season but Navy had a good year too and sure capped it off on a high note. Both teams will be playing in bowls.
