Who had 7-5 as the 2021 W-L record?

We will be lucky to be bowl eligible.

Too many injuries, too many really lousy play calls, and when we have opportunities there's always one guy who just doesn't do his job. Can't tackle, can't block, can't break a tackle, missing chip shot field goals.

This is not a top 25 team. If you can't win against Illinois on your home field after they lose their starting QB and RB, you can't beat anyone.

Since LJ left, bad overall d-line recruiting and development for years. Some stars, a few breakout games, but no dominant unit with depth over a sustained season. Without an offense that scores 28+, that played right into Bielema's wheelhouse today: hide my QB and wear down your defense with the run.

Sean's a great kid and clearly wants to win, but he isn't a pure pocket QB. He needs to be able to run and set his feet before he throws. 1/2 a Sean can't do that. With the QB being the most important position and us not having a serviceable backup, so much for our offense.

I will also add that this was game 7. Our opponents now have abundant film on this offense, defense, and the individual players. Obviously injuries play a big role and dropped passes kill you, but I think these coaches got out scouted for most of the game. The commentators were even saying how Illinois was nailing every run/pass call on defense. That's not an accident. Either we got out scouted or our players and systems just cannot adjust in-game to new assignments or wrinkles that their opponents throw at them. Unless the next Barkley is on the roster, PSU looks like it will limp quietly into 2022.

I had 8-4 and was pleasantly surprised by the start and how we played good team ball and then absolutely unpleasantly surprised today by the lack of energy and fight

still think 8-4 is possible , 9-3 would be a shock as it would require winning every non OSU game . Realistically 7-5 is probably the betting favorite

The shotgun east west handoff running game is, for the most part, outdated. It is also useless without a QB who is a dangerous or, at a minimum, effective runner.

Throw in how slow we approach it, our injured QB trying to play in a box with zero running capability today, RBs that are approaching the need for a fragile sticker, and poor blocking effort across the board, you have a recipe for a loss.

I think we blocked one A gap blitz today out of 10. Did we tighten out splits? Did we change snap counts? Did we try a QB that isn't injured?

Literally zero adjustments today. Did the entire staff learn they are going to USC or LSU and getting raises or were we so arrogant that we thought we beat Illinois just by showing up?

I was 8-4, and figured we would be 5-2 right now, but not the way we got here. The issue going forward is we have a QB who is not even close to being full strength, and no backup who appears to be any better. we also have no RB who is at full strength now. with no QB who is a threat to run or pass, and no run game, it is hard to see us scoring more than we did today on any team. I think 5-7 may be as likely as 7-5.

time to rethink either the s&c program or the recruiting in the trenches on both sides of the ball
the development for skill/speed guys has been phenomenal, but the trenches have been lacking in power for too many years for it to be a coincidence.

Not many had real high expectations which is why I don’t understand the disappointment level over a couple losses. We’re not alone. Look around. Fans everywhere are less than pleased mostly due to unwarranted hype in the preseason.
How ya think Clemson fans feel realizing they’ve reached rock bottom with a loss to Pitt.

It’s not a ‘couple of’ losses - it’s a loss to one of the worst teams in conference, in the worst, most embarrassing way. I think if we lost to two of any of Iowa, Wisconsin, or Auburn most are thinking ‘this is about what I thought.’

A loss to a terrible Illinois team.

Another loss after a loss, meaning we let losing once beat us twice.

Another loss coming off a bye.

All the hype about the East being tough and we have now lost 2 in a row to the West.

Our strength coaching sucks. It's been noticeable in wins, but glares when we lose.

I'm figuring 6-6. We lose at Maryland, and maybe win a close one vs. Rutgers
