Who would you hire to replace Chambers?

2 year’s ago I would have replaced him with Ben Howland before he went down south. Mississippi State ain’t much of a great job, even compared to PSU.

Now, I would go hard after Hoiberg. Invest in the program considerably. I thank Pat for the foundation he’s spent 8 years building, and was one of his earliest defenders for the first 5 years. But to me it’s clear we need to go in a new direction.

Throw out some realistic names.

wasn't aware that the job was open
It likely will be in due time. Have you watched this team this year?

You’re naive if you think ADs don’t make lists of candidates and targets before making employment decisions

I like Chambers and hope he gets the job done. I’m a Buzz Williams fan so I’d rescue him from Va Tech

Win or lose, a full house.:)

Probably a better chance to hire Meg Ryan.
Philly guy, and at 70, I don’t know if he’ll have opportunities at bigger schools if he really wants to get back into it for one last swing.

I expect Chambers back next year, but should always be prepared if needed.

Mike Nardi former Nova player and current Nova coach. Very young coach. This would be a great opportunity for him to get his feet wet and build for a better job. We don't need to pretend we're a destination job.

He can get his feet wet in the America East or MAAC (with about 5-10 more years of experience).

I must admit, It’s getting harder to stay positive about Chambers because whenever I think I can see the crest of the hill, it just keeps going.

I think Pat is a good man, hard working, and a capable coach. It’s just an uphill battle that is tough to overcome. He’s has connections to key recruiting hotbeds and gets blue chip players to visit. The lack of a strong basketball tradition and a complete dumpster fire of a basketball facility seem to be impossible to overcome.

That said, what coach is going to come to penn State and overcome these obstacles?

Seriously, I always liked Bo, but at age 70 I think he’d have a hard time convincing recruits he’d be around very long. He did a great job at Wiscy, but he walked away three years ago.....he’s through coaching.

There's no need for that. We've the perfect program to take that risk. There's absolutely no downside. Sean McVay became a HC in the NFL at 30 with just 3 years experience as an OC. We do not need a guy that's been a HC. We need a young guy that can related to recruits who knows the game.

Very reluctantly, I must agree - Oat has had more than enough time. Sweep aside the obstacles (Sandy being #1) and hire a coach that has a name and a proven record.

That’s like saying “there is no downside to Rutgers football hiring Johnny Manziel, he can relate to kids”.

Nardi doesn’t have the experience, is just starting to build connections, has no track record of player development, recruiting successes, etc. There isn’t a Patriot/MAAC/Ivy/etc school that would hire him today.

If we’re gonna blow this up, it sure as hell will be for somebody better than Mike Nardi. If you’re looking for the “young guy that we’ll reach for”, at least give me Scheyer or McNamara or someone in that league.

You just compared Manziel to Nardi. I can stop reading at that point.

Keep defending Chambers and being oblivious to the change that is needed. You can't blow up something that doesn't exist. It's him to gamble.
Actually, I’m able to see the full picture, and the pros/cons to keeping him. You are the one that ignores the recruiting inroads, ignores that we’re a top 50ish program today, ignores the Ronan Catholic pipeline, and thinks hiring someone with a resume the length of Nick Collela’s as head coach has “no downside”.

There is a long way to fall if/when we blow it up, and I’ve lived thru it a few times already to remember what it’s like. I don need to relive the days of Marlon Smith and Ben Luber playing 40 minutes/night, or Tim McGovern trying to guard Kiwane Garris, or our primary big being Kevin Fellows.

This whole “it can’t get worse than this” isn’t reality.

Enjoy the 20 year plan you believe exists. We're completely irrelevant. Decent or awful there's no difference.
