Who would you move over to safety?

Would really like to see some big-time, play-making safeties patrolling the back line. Thought Isheem Young would be one of those guys but that plan was derailed. Who do you see on this roster as a potential monster at safety?

I realize it doesn't mean much, but wasn't Monroe the one that looked really good in the Blue-White game?

Brisker sounds like he will be one of them. I really liked what I saw from Sutherland and Garrett Taylor really improved as the season went on.

I feel pretty good about the returning corners - D. Johnson looked good at the beginning of the season as the 3rd/4th CB. He seemed to be banged up the second half of the season. Johnson is lightning fast too.

I loved Zech's tape coming out of high school and I think he/ll be stud next year and the following.

Jabari Butler no longer with team, correct?

I can’t think of any corners we have on the current roster that could move there and thrive.
There are incoming freshmen and Brisker.
One other option would be either Cam Sullivan - Brown or Daniel George moving over from the offensive side. It depends on how ready the new guys are and whether those offensive players have a better chance of contributing as safeties.

No one. I also do not believe a veteran CB will move to Safety. Taylor, Wade, Sutherland, Monroe and Brisker, plus the true freshman Rudolph is enrolled early and will participate in Winter workouts and Spring practice. That looks like a good 3 deep. I don't see Petrishen as a contributor for 2019 and would not be surprised to see him transfer, but who really knows and he could also be at Safety for 2019. Lots of competition and depth at Safety on the roster this Spring and into Fall camp.

In the longer run, Porter, who the scouts list as a CB but is a pretty big framed player, may be a Safety. The other EE 2019 freshmen, Wilson and Ellis, look like CB's all the way,

When you have a solid core of safeties already on the roster.... why would anyone be concerned w moving WR over to the other side of the ball
Why ?
Injuries, transfers, new enrollees not being ready.
We have some depth at safety, but it is deceiving. It drops off pretty quickly after Taylor and Sutherland in terms of actual game time. Monroe has had injury problems and I believe so has Petrishen. Wade moved there from corner in 2018, but had limited snaps.
Maybe Brisker will push to start by fall and end the discussion, but I doubt any of the true freshmen will do so. Remember that Taylor is going into his last season.
It would not be ideal to see either CSB or George move over, but if it’s a matter of them being able to contribute there or sit on the bench, it would make sense to offer one of them the chance. I recall watching the tapes of both of them play some defense in HS. CSB looked more natural there, but George is definitely bigger, almost LB sized.

Brisker.

Brisker looks like a Marcus Allen-type hitter at safety. Looking forward to him flying into the LOS like a bag of bricks and blowing up plays... but also really hoping he's got some coverage skills to add that killer dimension to our secondary. CSB and CJ Holmes also strike me as intriguing options.

Given the current roster, why would you think they’d get more playing time at Safety than they would at WR?

Forget it..... no need to post an answer
CSB hardly played. George had limited snaps and retained his RS. With our often ineffectual WR play in 2018, that tells me they aren’t likely to get significant playing time this season.
I am not saying this is going to happen, but if somebody gets moved to safety, my bet would be one of these players.

Sutherland, backed by Wade, and Taylor backed by Brisker to start off. I prefer more size in one safety at least. Joey Porter intrigues me, be interesting if that works out with size and coverage skills

George is not moving to safety. Let's stop that now. He will be part of the two deep at WR this year.

Juwan Hamler Dotson
Shorter Hammer George
CSB Polk if he stays Dunmore will RS

Dotson as a third option and Hamler as a second ? I’d bet against that.

Forget Wade, he’ll never be anymore than a special teams player. Five star bust.

Giving up on a 19 year old kid already?

I think you might be onto something, but to give up on a sophomore is a little early. He seems to more interested in his rap career and personal persona than he does football. We shall see.

One other possibility is that we may already have additional safety options on the team who are walkon’s. Two names I have heard are Neff and Romano. I suppose we’ll have to wait until the spring game to see if they might be potential contributors.
Again, if Brisker comes in and challenges right away, it may not matter.

Brisker is a JUCO transfer. Those guys have less eligibility left and also have experience (albeit at small programs) after high school and have had some time to mature physically. You typically don't bring in JUCO guys to sit the bench. I expect Brisker to be a starter this fall along with Whigan on the OL.

Disagree about George. The kid is about 1 lifting session away from having an NFL WR body. The few minutes he got this season I thought he was pretty good and frankly thought he deserved more playing time.
I was going to make him my "surprise" performer on offense this season.

Keep an eye on Garrett Taylor. I think he’s going to have a great season in 2019. I’d like to see Wade back at CB.

Agree about Taylor disagree with Wade. I saw him as a CB and he got beat pretty badly in '17.
I think we just need to see him with another year of practice and time at Safety.

This is how the year ended :
WR 1 : Thompkins, Johnson, CSB, George
WR 2 : Dotson, Polk, Shorter
WR 3 : Hamler, Hippenhammer, Lutz

It is obvious that the 50:50 balls that were so effective in 2016 and 2017 were not going to work as well.
Next year, the passing offense either has to adapt to this reality or shuffle the starters to find guys who are 50:50 options, and that probably does not include Johnson.
But I’m getting off the thread here.

Joey Porter Jr.

Kid has long arms and was an interception machine in high school.

Didn’t Shorter start the bowl game? I don’t think Polk even played.
