Just genuinely curious if he was hurt or there was another reason. FWIW I have no issue with the mff.

I have to think he was ill.. not injured.. he never looks overly aggressive on offense but is usually a hammer on top and day one he couldn't ride to save his life.. just didn't seem to have the normal energy/strength he does on top.. Once qualified, why push at all.. especially in the case of a non scoring meaningless 9/10 match..

His snaps were much lighter than usual and his commitment to ride was lower weekend. I’m going with “off/illness.” There were no scoring or qualification implications of the match.

Fans need to recognize that Drew fits somewhere in the pack from 4-15 at 125. He could either win or lose any of those match-ups.

As a returning AA he obviously has the potential to repeat, he also has the potential to go 0-3 against McKee and/or DeAugustino if he faces either of them again.

Almost nothing to gain seeding wise from a win and much more to lose seeding wise with a loss. Wasn't worth the risk based on his performance that weekend. Better to regroup for the big tournament.

Personally I think he was ill. He looked good with the win, but in the other matches something seemed to be of from my POV.
I thought the same with RBY. If you go back to his first bout against Ramos, Roman was absolutely soaked with sweat after the first period. Perhaps this was just from a heavy warmup, but definitely not the norm for him.

Doubt there's anything to read from it. That match was almost completely pointless.

True I suppose, but the one that is really not debatable is that a win in the 9th Place match helps him far more "on the margin" than a MFF. Additionally, it would be very uncharacteristic for one of Cael's wrestler's to take a MFF if they were perfectly healthy (you aren't supposed to do that under the rules) - if he was perfectly healthy and just did not want to wrestle, he should have just straight "Forfeited" under the Rulebook. The difference being that a straight Forfeit counts as a loss on your record. Again, not sure Cael would play games with the rulebook if there was not a genuine reason for the "Medical" Forfeit.

Link the rule describing the NCAA seeding process. We'll wait.

Drew had the misfortune of wrestling two very good wrestlers. They ended up battling for third.
Precisely this. Also, he had previous losses to DeAugustino and McKee. It was a terrible draw for Drew and he'd probably tell you he was disappointed in his performance, but those results were not entirely unexpected.

serious question - how old are you?

I give a lot of credit to Penn St. for sending him out in the semi of the 9th place bracket which truly did matter to a lot of people. Being a Husker fan I was disappointed that Reno lost Saturday night as I thought he might get a "walk' to the NCAA tournament. While not a Penn St. fan, it is very hard for me to have anything less than complete respect for everything they do. They are generally very classy wrestlers and coaches. They let their wrestling do the talking for the most part. This is another minor but important example. They didn't bastardize the system. They respected it and sent him out there. The next match, literally meant nothing to anyone.

So would suriano be better? Lol.
He should get at least 3 wins in nationals which will help the team. 1 st round win then a coin toss depending on the draw and then consolations.

That's 2.0 team points.

Suriano will get that in his first match alone, and overall get 10x that.

Looks like we won't need him, and we don't have to root for him, but it shouldn't hurt us to understand that he's a better wrestler and that his personality didn't hinder Michigan.

Those 2 team points would have won big champ. But that is more than 2 team points by the way.

why wouldn’t you root for him to win. Of course you should.
