I have organized and directed 4, 6 and 10 mat college opens and invites and I completely understand why the staff would rather not.

A possible other factor, Cael in the last few years has become a big believer in load management. If they are going to do an early season tournament (probably only one), I think he would prefer to take the team on the road since it helps another program. No doubt the headaches of running your own tournament is one headache the staff does not need.
