Why did Ryan get to take down after injury time?

I thought the announcer said it would be Nolfs choice and Nolf would choose down. Nolf was scoring so many points, I couldn't keep track. Did they award the take down to Nolf and then they took the injury time?

To add to CS's statement, it's new (concussion protocol) this year.

Per NCAA Guidelines:

Athletes diagnosed with sport-related concussion must be removed from play and must not return to sport-related activity for at least one calendar day and are to be evaluated by a health care provider with expertise in sport-related concussion.
======

So in this case, even though there was a concussion protocol review, it was apparently determined that no concussion existed.

If there was a concussion, the match could not have continued.

So, if the concussion protocol evaluation has been wisely invoked, for the safety of the athlete and it is determined there is no concussion, what is the rule for how to continue the match?

It looks like they scored Nolf's takedown, to bring it to 14-5. Then, before the escape was awarded, the concussion time was set in motion.

When action was resumed, it continued in the center, with the same positions they had before the concussion review.

Ryan was down, with Nolf on top.
Nolf took the escape option position with hands on the back at the whistle.

The score at the restart was still 14-5, which included Nolf's takedown before the concussion protocol review.

This supports the comment that there is "no choice" for restart. The positions at the time of the stoppage were resumed.

Good for Ryan's health that he did not have a concussion.

6.1.6 Resumption of Wrestling. If, at the expiration of the timeout, the contestant is able to continue wrestling, the match shall be resumed as if the contestant had gone out of bounds.

Interesting.

Thanks for posting specifics Agent-007.
Much appreciated.

Great question. Applying logic will get u no reward when osu is in play

My only question (especially if I were the parent of the wrestler in question) is what kind of concussion testing was that supposed to be? He crouched there, rubbed his neck and shoulders, and led him back to the match. Concussion testing involves a myriad of questions from the year and day and time to what just happened in the match and the previous scoring. Also simple memory tests, concentration tests, balance tests, and more. If they truly believed he may have a concussion, they should have had to go through all of this to then clear him. Call me crazy but I didn't see any of this happening. Maybe they have some explanation and I'm completely off...

Does being exhausted cause concuscions now? I'm being a little bitter, but I watched it over and over and from the tv broadcast angle, I saw nothing to stop the match, other than the a$$ whooping he was taking!

An "interpretation"...from the book...

Rule 6.1.5 – Referee Timeout, Concussion Evaluation Timeout
In the case of a possible concussion, the referee shall stop the match
for a concussion evaluation. The medical staff shall have unlimited
and unimpeded time to evaluate the participants. In cases of uncertainty,
the medical staff shall be granted the ability to remove the
participant from the wrestling area to perform the concussion evaluation.
During the evaluation, the match will be suspended until a
decision is rendered. The referee, the coaches of both participants
and the non-injured wrestler are to remain on the mat.
A concussion evaluation timeout shall not count towards the contestant’s
injury timeout or recovery timeout. Coaching of the contestant
being evaluated is not permitted.

A) Determined to not be a concussion.

B) Fill in the blank for the real cause.
